We’re channelling the Cote D’Azur this summer

Whether you’ve been glued to the Olympics or you’re gleefully awaiting a weekend spent binging the new season of Emily in Paris, you just might have dreamy French vistas playing on your mind. When it comes to design, Parisian chic is always in vogue – but this season’s spin on the trend is French Riviera-inspired interiors. Here’s everything you need to know about Rivieracore.

What Are Rivieracore Interiors?

While Parisian interior design is largely associated with muted colour palettes, chic antiques and elegant wall panelling, Rivieracore channels the warmth (and opulence) of the Cote D’Azur. Think effortless coastal charm (conjured by beachy shades of blue and green) combined with a touch of sophistication thanks to lavish textures and carefully-selected vintage furniture.

So how do you get the look? Victoria Foster, interior stylist at ScS, has pulled together her best tips for nailing Rivieracore. Read on for the rundown.

Beachy Tones

Victoria suggests starting with ‘beachy stripes of blue or green’ to contrast with any crisp whites. ‘Take inspiration from the coast by adding a statement armchair in these shades to an otherwise clean, neutral setup,’ she adds, ‘then introduce extra layers of colour through chic artwork, bookshelves, or a statement rug.’

Art Deco Touches

Taking inspiration from the French Riviera also means imbuing your home with some Art Deco flair, says Victoria. ‘The Cote d’Azur usually conjures up the idea of luxury and grandeur with a vintage touch, largely characterised by the influence of the Art Deco movement, which began in France in the early 20th century,’ she explains.

‘Touches of Art Deco style can easily be introduced into the home; when it comes to metal hardware, gold and brass dominate,’ she continues. ‘Look for gold lighting – if you currently rent or a chandelier is simply unrealistic, a gold table or floor lamp will work just as well. A gold or brass mirror is an easy addition, and you can also choose a sofa with gold feet or furniture with gold hardware.’

Plants & Natural Lighting

‘Whether leafy palms on the coast or weeping willows on the banks of the Seine, greenery is a key anchor in a French inspired setting,’ Victoria states. ‘To achieve this aesthetic at home, houseplants are a must – just remember that less is more. Opt for a large statement plant in the corner of the room rather than several smaller ones, and place a couple of flower vases on various surfaces. This way a strong presence of greenery is introduced without overwhelming the space.’

When it comes to lighting, meanwhile, ‘natural lighting brings the whole look together. Flood your room with as much light as possible – choosing lighter sheer curtains or blinds will help to maximise this.’
