Here’s How To Get Your Hands On Pieces From Vivienne Westwood’s Wardrobe
It’s official: clothes, shoes and jewellery from Vivienne Westwood’s personal collection will be auctioned in a two-part sale at Christie’s this June. Both will raise funds for the causes supported by Dame Vivienne throughout her life, including her own charity, The Vivienne Foundation, as well as Amnesty International, Médecins Sans Frontières and Greenpeace.

What Will Be Included In The Auction?
Entitled Vivienne Westwood: The Personal Collection, the auction will showcase some of the most famous looks created and worn by Dame Vivienne throughout the last forty years of her life. Each piece has been carefully selected by Andreas Kronthaler, Dame Vivienne’s husband and the Creative Director of the Vivienne Westwood fashion house.
More than 200 items will be presented across the auction, each from a significant moment in Vivienne’s life and career. Christie’s has announced that the earliest look dates back to the Vivienne Westwood Witches collection, which launched for Autumn/Winter 1983/4.
Another major part of the sale will be a collection of prints from a 2017 project, THE BIG PICTURE – Vivienne’s Playing Cards. The cards were designed by Dame Vivienne as ‘A Strategy 2 Save the World’, spotlighting urgent issues relating to climate change, social inequality and human rights. Ten of the cards were enlarged and signed by Dame Vivienne shortly before her death, and it’s these one-of-a-kind prints that will be sold in the Christie’s auction – with proceeds going to Greenpeace.
When & Where Will The Auction Take Place?
The two-part Vivienne Westwood sale will consist of a live auction (Part I) held at Christie’s on 25 June 2024. An online auction (Part II) will take place alongside this, running from 14 to 28 June 2024. christies.com
