Look Inside: Tan Llan, Snowdonia

In the heart of the Snowdonia National Park – Wales’ first of three national parks – sits Tan Llan (pronounced ‘tan clan’), a Grade II listed countryside escape.

Among the towering mountains and stunning valleys of surrounding Snowdonia, Tan Llan sits naturally: built with hard grey stone, a unique product of the local geology and craftsmanship, the architecture is bold and strong, with the look of a traditional country house.

Set over three floors and sleeping up to 16, Tan Llan has been carefully renovated to offer luxurious and spacious accommodation. Stylish interiors, a blend of bright and contemporary furnishings make for a comfortable stay: large sash windows and shutters, cast iron radiators, a bespoke fireplace with locally sourced slate, a large fully-kitted kitchen area, a spacious garden with outdoor seating, as well as a delightful sunroom to soak up the gorgeous surrounds on brisker days.

Nestled deep in Snowdonian countryside, Tan Llan’s closest neighbour is the ruined Cymer Abbey, just over the Afon Mawddach river. The small village of Llanelltyd is nearby, or Dolgellau – a small market town boasting the highest concentration of heritage-listed buildings in Wales – is just over two miles away, with its delightful cafes, bars, and independent shops.

In Snowdonia, of course, cyclists, walkers and general outdoor enthusiasts are very happy: Cadair Idris looms large, 13 miles away, and the surrounding area is ripe for exploration. Beaches are close, and the stunning, Italianate Portmeirion village is a short drive away, too.
