The Curriculum
The Lord Wandsworth College curriculum focuses on helping our pupils develop the attitudes, approaches, skills and habits (A2RH) fundamental to performance excellence. This helps us shape curious, creative and resilient individuals.
Games & the Arts
Although famously strong at rugby they offer a wide range of sport and have many club and county players in hockey, cricket, netball and athletics. More recently they have had success in women’s weight lifting and have a men’s Team GB diver in sixth-form. They have outstanding facilities and aim to encourage all pupils to take part and have fun no matter what team they are in. The art department approach is lively, friendly, but focused. They encourage and teach personal expression, imagination, curiosity, sensitivity, conceptual thinking, powers of observation, analytical ability and practical skills.
Pastoral Care
Happy children are successful children and this is underpinned by the school’s positive focus on pastoral care, wellbeing and good mental health; the triumvirate of their +3 philosophy. They have recently been recognised nationally at the Boarding Schools’ Association Awards when they won the Wellbeing and Mental Health Initiative Award 2019.
Scholarships
Up to 10 scholarships and awards at each entry level (11+, 13+ and 16+) for academic, art, all-rounder, performing arts, dance, music and sport. Scholarships can be honorary or carry a financial reward, five per cent to ten per cent reduction in fees.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
Lord Wandsworth College is a school that nurtures character, celebrates pupil voice, leadership and authentic engagement with our parent body, working closely with them to develop a common understanding about what great development looks and feels like for our children. My aim is to enable all our pupils to grow in self-confidence and have a meaningful voice in the world.
Outstanding Characteristics
At Lord Wandsworth College we have five core pillars – looking after each other, stretch and challenge, good mental health, pupil voice and character education. This philosophy enables our pupils to be ready for the world beyond, for it is a world that requires them to be curious, creative, tech-savvy, collaborative and emotionally intelligent.
