The Curriculum
Our curriculum is broadly based and extends well beyond the national curriculum. Teaching groups are deliberately small, so that staff can develop a deep understanding of all their pupils. We provide extension work to stretch the most able and learning support for those who need it. We pride ourselves that all children are given encouragement and helped to reach their full potential.
Games & The Arts
Practical art allows for adventure and for trying out individual creative ideas, combining learning with having fun. Our philosophy is to physically educate all children, rather than ‘coach’ sports activities to a chosen few. Regular involvement in enjoyable sports and games is an integral part of school life.
Pastoral Care
We place great emphasis on creating the right ethos for learning. Children work and play hard, strive for excellence and are encouraged and rewarded for achievements, effort and good behaviour through the House Points System. Within a happy atmosphere, we value and develop all the skills and talents of individual pupils and staff. Teachers use a broad range of teaching strategies to ensure children remain focused and challenged, with the arts, sport, languages and ICT promoting ‘all-round’ development. Academic examinations and tests are important, but young children really need to be properly prepared for the next stage in their education. We believe in strengthening the ‘whole person’, with broader skills and positive attitudes.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
Hawley Place students are part of a community which is vibrant, committed and highly supportive. Our motto – in pursuit of excellence – ensures that we work to animate the potential of all our students, from the warm and welcoming nursery through to the highly successful prep school and senior school. We strive to work together to create, deliver and live our caring and supportive ethos.
