The Curriculum
Our school strives to balance a love of learning, with robust foundations and subject preparation to enable boys to access a range of aspirational senior schools. SHS is a magical place, where boys develop a healthy world view, curiosity and impressive critical thinking, while having fun in and out of the classroom.
Games & the Arts
Sport is an integral and vital part of school life. We provide a programme based on inclusivity, enjoyment and performance. Although we are proud of our success in Regional and National competition, Shrewsbury House School is just as focused on providing as broad an opportunity as possible for all boys.
Boys receive a broad education in all aspects of Art and Design & Technology, which are taught as distinct subjects within the curriculum.
The ethos of the Music Department is that opportunity is open to all, and not just a select few. Every boy is actively encouraged to participate in a wide range of musical activities, in the classroom, in performances and on School trips.
Pastoral Care
Our school offers excellent pastoral care. The wellbeing and care of the boys is fundamentally important and absolutely central to all that we do and integral to ensuring all boys are happy.
Throughout his Prep School career, each boy will have the opportunity for individual care and support. The Pastoral Structure of the school allows support to operate on several different levels. Your son will have his own Form Tutor, who will oversee his general wellbeing and progress, while a Head of Year maintains an overview on all boys in a year group. Mr Tom Eaves, Head of Pastoral Care, liaises closely with all staff, as well as providing additional support for parents.
Scholarships
Our boys achieved 50 scholarships or awards to some of the UK’s leading senior schools in 2018-2020.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
Inclusivity is central to Shrewsbury House School’s ethos and all boys regularly take on new challenges to extend them beyond their previous encounters. Every boy performs in his annual Year Group Concert and Play. Every boy has the opportunity to represent the School in the three main competitive sports of football, rugby and cricket. Opportunities are wide and frequent for the boys to take part in a broad range of inter-prep and national academic, sport and cultural events. The six yearsyour son will spend in his Prep School are critically influential in developing strong independent learning skills and a robust work ethic; these in turn will provide solid foundations for future success.
