School donates personal protective equipment to NHS hospital

St Peter’s School, York, donates over 6,500 pieces of personal protective equipment to NHS hospital – York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – in a bid to support the international fight against coronavirus and keep our NHS staff safe.

‘I am so pleased that we have been able to donate these essential items to support our local healthcare workers, who are putting in a huge amount of effort to keep us all safe and well,’ said Jeremy Walker, Head Master of St Peter’s School. Mr Walker continues, ‘I am grateful to everyone for making these available for us to share at this important time.’

While some 250,000 NHS volunteers have been recruited to alleviate the pressure on the country’s hospitals, St Peter’s donation includes four infection protection kits (complete with mask, visor, coverall, gloves, shoe covers, tape and a waste bag), 48 filtering face pieces, 626 surgical face masks, 150 pieces of eye protection (goggles and glasses), 5,500 latex free gloves, 350 disposable aprons and 25 disposable decorators coveralls.

‘I would like to express my personal thanks to St Peter’s School for their support in donating of personal protective equipment to the Trust,’ commented Simon Morritt, Chief Executive of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. ‘This will help us ensure we are well equipped to support our staff and care for our patients in the coming days and weeks.’

The items of personal protective equipment have been sourced from St Peter’s School’s on-site medical centre, its science, design and technology departments, and donations from pupils.
