The Ultimate Family Festival For Summer 2022
The Commonwealth Games isn’t the only festival of sport taking place in the UK this summer. From 12th – 15th August, more than 30 international and national sportsmen and women will welcome hundreds of families for a full weekend of family fun in the spectacular surrounds of Holkham Park, Norfolk.
Festival of Sport 2022 is the brainchild of international rugby legends Will Greenwood and Austin Healey. After a successful inaugural year in 2021, it’s back this year with more sports, more stars and maximum fun for all ages.
‘We can’t wait to get back to Holkham for this year’s Festival of Sport – it’s going to be even bigger and better than last year,’ says co-founder Will. ‘It’s such a good opportunity for youngsters to improve on their existing skills as well as try completely new sports, with a complete package of fun for the whole family – I don’t think there’s anywhere else that you could have that same experience all in three days.’
Confirmed stars of the sporting world attending for the first time this year include Team GB hockey players Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh, rower Alan Campbell and freestyle footballer Charlotte Lade-Rogers.
Alongside co-founders Will and Austin, sports stars returning in 2022 include cricketer Ryan Sidebottom, trampolinist Amanda Parker, footballer Dean Ashton, Paralympic rowers Vicki and Tom Aggar, netballer Tamsin Greenway and golfer Graeme Storm.
All legends actively participate throughout the weekend, coaching and playing alongside youngsters, as well as their accompanying adults, with special Grownups vs Legends games.
New for 2022
- Extra time – stay and play from Friday afternoon to Monday morning to make the most of packed activity timetables on Saturday and Sunday, and evening entertainment across all three evenings
- New sports including Laser Run, brought to Festival of Sport by Pentathlon GB, this is a two-discipline event where athletes both run and shoot laser pistols completing a set number of laps according to their age
- Additional activities – especially for under 5s and adults to supercharge the weekend for all ages
- More on-site accommodation options, from bringing your own tent and basic bell tents for hire to fully equipped Airstream trailers, yurts and tipis
Staycation with a difference
Kicking off on Friday afternoon with a warm welcome to the Festival, Saturday and Sunday daytimes are packed with sessions ranging from rugby, football, cricket, netball and hockey to kayaking, MMA, boxing, archery, trampolining and more as well as fun runs, exhibitions and showcases.
The sports programme is aimed primarily at youngsters aged between 5 and 17 years old, but there are plenty of additional activities to keep pre-schoolers and adults occupied and entertained too. Toddlers can enjoy baby gym sessions and dance classes while parents are welcome to take time out from cheering their children on from the sidelines to take part in selected sporting activities themselves, relax into a yoga class, listen to expert talks or indulge in a sports massage.
The fun continues across all three evenings with open-air cinema on Friday, then live music and DJs on Saturday and Sunday bringing a family party vibe, all set against the iconic backdrop of Holkham Hall.
A wide range of food and drink is available throughout the weekend from a range of carefully selected providers, offering the best in local and more exotic flavours and including several licensed bars.
For those looking to enjoy the complete festival experience, accommodation is available on site in a range of glamping units including bell tents, yurts, tipis and Airstream trailers.
