RHS Pupils Commended at Model United Nations Conference

Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, Ipswich, is celebrating after Year 11 pupil Charles Maloney-Charlton was awarded highly commended delegate and Year 11 pupil Henry Shadrack received an honourable mention at a national Model United Nations (MUN) conference held at Cheadle Hulme School, Manchester in October. 

The MUNCH 2 day conference included topics such as period poverty, securing democracy around the world, transgender rights, racial and gender representation in the police force and much more across the two days. It provided delegates a very high standard of debate and the opportunity to meet other students from across the UK and Europe in a very welcoming environment.

Model United Nations is one of the few opportunities for truly independent study and for students to gain vital skills for their future. Students learn about countries around the world, acquire the ability to state an idea clearly and build consensus to find solutions to the global problems that will affect them in later life. 

Mrs Routledge, Director of MUN at RHS, said: “MUNCH was our first residential MUN trip since Covid-19 and it was really lovely to be able take our delegates to experience the joys of the Northwest. As a new generation of MUNers, for many this was their first experience of attending a conference and I was delighted to see how involved everyone got in their committees, proposing amendments, giving and taking points of information and speaking for and against resolutions. A special congratulations to Charles and Henry for their accolades; they were very well deserved, and I look forward to seeing everyone progress across the upcoming debates and conferences.”
