Pupils Pay Tribute To Local War Heroes

14 November 2022, Hertfordshire – Local pupils at independent day and boarding school in Bushey, St Margaret’s, paid tribute to the country’s war heroes in a special service for Remembrance Day this year, which took place in the School’s grounds. The service which also welcomed guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Cameron, who was commissioned into The Queen’s Royal Hussars in 2003, involved a thought provoking assembly and outdoor ceremony.

The school choir sang In Flanders Fields in a beautiful and fitting remembrance tribute, before the whole School made its way out to the front of the building for a commemorative ceremony, where they laid wreaths before observing a two minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives.

Lieutenant Colonel Cameron, who has completed operational tours of Iraq, Afghanistan and most recently Ukraine, has since transferred to the Royal Corps of Signals and currently serves as the Head of Cyber Security for the Permanent Joint Headquarters. He is responsible for the Cyber security of all UK personnel deployed overseas and gave an inspiring and insightful talk to pupils.

Lara Péchard, Head at St Margaret’s School commented: ‘It was very moving to see the whole school coming together in honour of this important day. Our pupils listened intently during the service, and we are immensely grateful to Lieutenant Colonel Cameron for taking the time to share his experiences and thoughts with our community.’

At the Junior School, pupils also laid commemorative poppy wreaths under their Remembrance Tree, which was planted recently in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Year 6 cohort.
