'From the moment I heard about Angelina’s vision for Atelier Jolie, I believed in it'
Following the announcement of her new fashion earlier this year, Angelina Jolie is back on our feeds with the news that French luxury brand Chloé will be the first collaborator for Atelier Jolie – and the two have just unveiled what the collection will look like.
Chloé Is Atelier Jolie’s First Collaborator
It’s official: Chloé is the first collaborator for upcoming fashion label Atelier Jolie. The French Maison confirmed the news earlier this year, announcing that the two brands are working together on an exclusive womenswear collection of ready-to-wear pieces.
In a statement from Chloé, it was revealed that Atelier Jolie founder Angelina Jolie had worked closely with Chloé’s then-Creative Director Gabriela Hearst on the collection, drawing on Chloé’s network of international makers to bring their designs to life. It was also noted that this capsule would incorporate a higher percentage of lower-impact materials than any previous collection created by the Maison.
‘From the moment I heard about Angelina’s vision for Atelier Jolie, I believed in it,’ said Hearst on the collaboration. ‘It is a way to elevate others through the beauty of garment-making and her deep respect for the environment. It’s an honour for me that Chloé will be the first collaborator for Atelier Jolie, as both have high ideals for the betterment of our species. That is the reason why I love both Angelina and Chloé so deeply.’
Angelina Jolie was similarly excited to work with the French luxury label. ‘Very few luxury brands are a certified B Corp,’ added Jolie. ‘It was important to me to work with Chloé, one of the first luxury brands to be a B Corp. It has been a privilege to design with Gabriela Hearst, and I hope all women will feel comfortable and beautiful in this capsule collection. My earnings from this collaboration will be invested in establishing apprenticeships for tailors and artisans at Atelier Jolie.’
What Is Atelier Jolie?
Atelier Jolie is an upcoming fashion label created by Hollywood actress (and namesake) Angelina Jolie. You can read all about the brand, and Jolie’s plans for the future, here.
What Can We Expect From The Collection?
The upcoming capsule will focus primarily on eveningwear, with an emphasis on fluid silhouettes, timeless design and tactile details. Much of the collection has also been inspired by Jolie’s own wardrobe. In its statement, Chloé described the collaboration as ‘an exercise in modern femininity, [that] celebrates authentic women-to-women connections.’
Honouring ‘both brands’ respective commitments to improving social and environmental sustainability with greater transparency and accountability’, Chloé and Atelier Jolie will be spotlighting the work of artisans from Fair Trade enterprises, as well as female-led social groups – these include partnerships with Akanjo, a World Fair Trade Organisation guaranteed social enterprise based in Madagascar that is committed to training and promoting craftsmanship, as well as La Fabrique Nomade, a Paris-based programme that promotes professional inclusion for refugee and migrant artisans in France. Overall, half of the collection will be manufactured through Fair Trade enterprises.
Fabrics and textiles have also been carefully considered for the collaboration, which is comprised of at least 80 percent lower-impact materials – which is higher than any previous collection from Chloé. Deadstock fabric and natural materials (such as organic silk, organic crepe de chine and certified wool) will also make up many of the looks in the collection.
As for the looks themselves, the brands tell us that we can expect ‘sleek dresses, relaxed tailoring, sophisticated outerwear and lightweight luxurious layering pieces’ with plenty of feminine reference points. Some of the highlights include a white floaty dress and a black velvet opera cape (both inspired by clothing Jolie wore as a child), as well as a rendition of the Maison’s signature lavallière shirt in deadstock hammered silk-satin and a three-piece black suit made from deadstock wool gabardine.
