Royal High School Bath pupil, Sophie Craggs, won the Atherton Award.
This is a new Enterprise Award for girls’ schools in the UK.
Sophie won with her company ‘The Green Garage’ which supplies eco beauty and cleaning products.
This idea started as Sophie thought bulk buying would allow people to refill their bottles and avoid continuous trips back to the shops.
Sophie said: ‘I bought the initial products with a loan from my parents and have now paid that back. It has been incredible learning about business loans and investing.’
As the winner, Sophie received a trophy, £500 towards her entrepreneurial journey and will get a mentoring day with Amber Atherton or someone within her network.
Amber Atherton commented: ‘The world desperately needs to find sustainable alternatives to plastics. That is why refilling centres are a potentially ground-breaking enterprise.’
What is the Atherton Award?
The enterprise award was set up by British entrepreneur, Amber Atherton who started her first business when she was at Benenden School. She is also the author of the recently published book, The Rise of Virtual Communities.
Amber is also a partner of Patron VC, who’s investment portfolio includes businesses such as TikTok, YouTube, Ebay and Fitbit.
