Inspiration for your winter home decor
The streets are filled with twinkling lights, and it’s almost time to decorate the Christmas tree. Still not planned your festive aesthetic? Here are the jolly styles dominating the interiors world this winter. Etsy shares its top Christmas trends for 2023.
Top Christmas Interiors Trends For 2023
Gingerbread Girl
Move over tomato girl: there’s a new aesthetic in town. According to Etsy, the trend set to dominate this winter is gingerbread girl – which it describes as ‘cottagecore’s baking-obsessed sister’. Think wholesome, cosy and rustic: the kind of person who bakes gingerbread cookies, wears big hair bows and decorates their home with gingham. Etsy has reported an increase in foraged decor and vintage pieces, with searches on the up including wreath sashes, ruffled bedding, gingham bedding and holiday cookie cutters.
Mantelscaping
Tablescaping isn’t going anywhere, but we’ll be jazzing up our mantelpieces too this Christmas. Etsy predicts mantelscaping is going to be big this year, and many shoppers are already planning their themes: searches for candle lanterns are up 86 percent, while ceramic trees are up 52 percent. Other decor could include snow globes, iridescent baubles, seasonal florals and garlands – and Etsy recommends mixing up the ‘height, shape and textures of your various decorative elements to curate a truly magical mantel masterpiece’.
Grandpa Chic
The winter sibling of the coastal grandmother summer trend, grandpa chic is nothing new, but it’s going to be everywhere this Christmas. A nostalgic look characterised by rich tones and traditional materials, it gives a space a warm, comforting feel, with classic pieces, antiques and knitted throws. Etsy has reported high demand for leather items, with searches for leather poufs up more than three times, and searches for wood and marble coasters having grown more than four times.
Candycore
Surprise surprise, our obsession with all things pink will continue into the winter, with a fun seasonal twist. Think Barbiecore‘s festive sibling: bright tones will evolve into more pastel hues, paired with the classic Christmas red to create the ultimate candycore look. As Etsy describes: ‘inspired by a sugary fantasy world filled with lollipops, candy canes, and gumdrops, this playful trend taps into the childlike enchantment of sweet treats and features holiday staples in iridescent materials, playful patterns, and delicious colours.’ Searches for cotton candy cakes have more than doubled on Etsy – the perfect centrepiece for a festive meal – alongside stained glass ornaments and scalloped placemats.
Elevated Entertaining
We’ll be going big on festive hosting this Christmas. Searches for entertaining items are soaring on Etsy, with a focus on more planet-friendly items that will last long past festive season. Zodiac tea towels, in particular, have seen a huge increase of 28,277 percent, while natural linen placemats are up 5,980 percent and handmade barware is up 4,109 percent. Thankfully, searches for single use and disposable dining items are trending down.
