Author Charlie Mackesy has teamed up with the National Literacy Trust, Penguin Random House UK and BBC Teach to share free educational resources that have been inspired by his bestseller The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
The resources have been designed to help teachers with their lesson plans, assemblies and school performances.
Charlie also partnered with writer and musician Charlotte Freud who has produced a musical for primary schools based on the short film. The resources for the musical include a playscript, sheet music, sing-along videos, performance tracks and backdrop artwork. These are all available for free on the BBC Teach platform now.
Charlie Mackesy commented: ‘I hope perhaps it opens up the world a bit more to children, giving them a deeper understanding of the messages of the book. I hope learning the lines as simple mantras will allow them to repeat them all their lives, and stay in their hearts.’
When working alongside the National Literacy Trust and Penguin Random House UK, Charlie has helped create assembly plans and classroom activities for KS1 and KS2.
Edbury, part of Penguin House UK are also donating books to over 64 primary schools for World Kindness Day. Puffin’s World of Stories will additionally be donating 450 copies of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
Charlie has also worked with a UK based family-run production partner to create a plush toy mole. He hopes this plush toy mole will be a friend to all, to carry with them and remind them they are loved and enough. You can buy The Mole on the Charlie Mackesy website.
