Written by Michael Robert Johnson (the writer of Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes), filming has wrapped on King & Conqueror, a new eight-part series coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer very soon, retelling the Battle of Hastings.

What Is King & Conqueror About?

King & Conqueror takes us all the way back to the 11th century, recounting the story of the Battle of Hastings, a mammoth clash that decided the fate of the nation. The roots of the battle stretch back decades, and King & Conqueror traces the interconnected family dynasties grappling for power across two countries and a raging sea. Two key figures stand at the fore: Harold of Wessex (James Norton) and William of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), two men with no desire for the British throne, destined to meet in 1066, forced into conflict by circumstance.
