These days, brides are looking for a BIG bridal moment that will help define the big day – and many are taking inspiration from the red carpet to maximise the ‘wow factor’ of their dresses. ‘There’s a delightful juxtaposition emerging among brides, with some gravitating towards a sleek, refined elegance, epitomised by luxurious fabrics such as silk duchess, while others are fully embracing texture through intricate jacquard weaves and laser-cut embroidery,’ highlights British fashion and wedding designer Sassi Holford. ‘In 2024 and 2025, I anticipate brides drawing inspiration from prominent fashion events such as the Met Gala; just last year, for example, we saw figures like Emily Ratajkowski and Dua Lipa wholeheartedly embraced the timeless allure of drop waist silhouettes and billowing skirts.’ With styles like this, it’s all about the drama – and the elevation of gowns into sophisticated glamour.

2. Basque Waisted Corsets

The experts are also forecasting a rise in corseted gowns for 2024/25. ‘We are seeing a lot of basque waisted corsets coming through which thrills me as this is the style I had for my own wedding,’ says Savannah Miller, designer and founder of Savannah Miller Bridal. ‘We have the “Adrienne” style (pictured below) in our new collection that we designed in both short and long lengths. The waist detail is super flattering as it elongates the torso and the legs, creating a very beautiful style line.’

3. Playful Textures

For more drama, think silk, lace and chiffon. ‘I am noticing that textural interplay and sculptural references are making a big comeback,’ Savannah says. ‘I have explored this in my collection by combining matt and shiny textures with our “Tara” style, the delicate draping of chiffon on “Isla” that is reminiscent of Grecian sculpture and by draping heavy pleating in silk Mikado on “Amelia“. We had a bespoke bride, Georgia (pictured below) whose namesake gown is part of the collection, and her train was made with deep Chantilly lace godets and silk organza layered with lace to create a super voluminous and dramatic frilled edge.’

4. Statement Sleeves

Flexible design is also a key trend for brides going forward, especially when it comes to detachable sleeves. ‘The statement sleeve trend seems to not be going anywhere,’ says Kate Halfpenny, designer and founder of Halfpenny London. ‘We’ve been offering completely detachable sleeves for years and it’s a trend that’s here to stay. Brides can wear a simple dress and add a gorgeous puff-ball sleeve for an instant transformation. Wear the full look for the ceremony then remove the sleeves for a completely different evening look.’

5. The Modern Veil

And, speaking of add-ons, how about a veil? ‘I’ve always loved veils and it’s always fun to experiment every season to discover a new take on this tradition,’ highlights Kate. ‘In our new collection we have a number of chic options, from the blue Kahlo veil cut (pictured below) to the floor at the front and short at the back to showcase an incredible statement back, or the cocoon-like Emma veil which is nipped in at the waist or hips. For me, veils are the ultimate wedding day accessory.’

Guest Dressing

1. Tailoring

As for the attendees, Sassi predicts that we’ll see a shift towards tailored silhouettes. ‘There’s a noticeable trend towards refined tailoring, crafting effortlessly chic silhouettes that delicately accentuate the curves with an understated grace,’ she highlights. And when it comes to the details? ‘I expect to see a symphony of blue hues dominate, with saturated shades of navy and sky blue tones taking centre stage,’ says Sassi. ‘Echoing bridal trends, textured jacquard fabrics will be embraced to add interest to a clean and tailored silhouette. Additionally, metallic accents have emerged as a prominent trend for 2024, I expect this to become increasingly prevalent towards the latter part of the year, especially for autumn/winter weddings and events.’

2. Sculptural Silhouettes

We’ve already noted that sculptural dressing will be big for brides, but the same also rings true for guests. ‘Sculptural, architectural silhouettes are a big trend for this season,’ says Suzannah Crabb, designer and founder of Suzannah London. ‘Our Delphine dress, cut from softly structured Italian cloqué cloth, features a beautiful tulip shaped wrapped skirt, a fitted bodice and soft sculptural sleeves – perfectly epitomising this trend.’

3. Feminine Fits

It’s also expected that guests dressing will lean more firmly into feminine styles and colour palette. The biggest shade? Pink, of course. ‘Hot pink will be a fun vibrant shade for the summer event season as seen on our new Garland dress, a freely cut silhouette with a beautiful scoop back and tie,’ says Suzannah. ‘Super chic dresses with semi fitted bodice and full fluid skirts for a “softly ladylike” trend and silhouette will also be key – as seen on our Allison peachy cream dress.’

1. Multi-Functional Bridal Treatments

Wedding Themes

1.Vintage Weddings

Wedding themes are also proving a big hit with nuptial planners – especially in the case of vintage weddings, which the 2024 Pinterest Wedding Report says has surged in popularity on the social media platform over the last year. ‘We’ve seen trends of nostalgia, such as rising searches for Y2K, 1990s or groovy nuptials (1960s and 1970s weddings) as reported in Pinterest Predicts,’ says Pinterest. ‘Now, Pinners are taking it way back, with searches for vintage weddings on the rise. It seems some couples are drawn to the charm and romance of bygone eras, as well as the classic and refined aesthetic they bring. Some may even choose to use family heirlooms like vintage rings to add sentimental value.’

3. Vibrant Vows

Another wedding trend we’re anticipating will crop up throughout 2024 and 2025 is colour – and we don’t mean this lightly. Vibrancy and colour maximalism is set to have a moment this wedding season, with everything from pink wedding dresses and red heart cakes to multicoloured bouquets and colourful gemstone rings.

‘Pinners, especially Gen Z, are rebelling against the classic beige and white wedding and embracing bright colours throughout their wedding décor and outfits,’ agrees Pinterest. ‘Gen Z seems to have a fascination for red in particular, with increasing searches for red wedding dresses and red roses as décor.’

3. Natural Tablescapes

As for tablescaping, think unrestricted biophilia. ‘Make your wedding tables fun – they don’t need to be prescriptive or restricted to simple florals in vases, or coloured glass,’ says Kate. ‘When we hosted our event at the Arts Club we decided to put candles inside pomegranates and had artichokes and vegetation down the centre of the table with random sprigs of flowers. Think outside the box with moss and other seasonal inspirational vegetation and florals that make a statement.’
