Take a look inside this remarkable residence

From Florence Nightingale’s childhood home to the Duke of Westminster’s country estate, a whole host of historic properties have hit the market recently. The latest (and perhaps the most impressive) is Winston Churchill’s London home, which he purchased in 1946. Here’s the rundown.

Winston Churchill’s Home Is Up For Sale

Living room with pale blue walls, cream sofas and a fireplace.

Standing proudly in Hyde Park Gate, this Grade II listed property bears one of London’s most prestigious postcodes – and it was once owned by none other than Winston Churchill.

According to English Heritage, the former prime minister purchased a home in the area after he lost the general election in 1945. This property was subsequently redecorated, with one room transformed into what Churchill apparently called his ‘snob library’ containing an extensive collection of precious books. In 1946, Churchill bought the house next door for the tidy sum of £7,000, and both buildings were later combined into a single house to form Churchill’s longest standing residence in the capital.

Dining room with wooden table, red drapes and a chandelier.

Nowadays, the historic property is worth a whopping £19.5 million. Spanning nearly 6,000 square feet, it boasts six bedrooms, five bathrooms and two main reception rooms plus a dining room, library and office.

Bedroom with four poster bed, a yellow rug and wooden cabinets.

Entering via the lower ground floor, you’ll spot the large kitchen/breakfast room alongside the dining room, which leads out to the immaculate rear garden. This level also contains a utility room, pantry and gym.

You’ll find the handsome library and neighbouring office on the floor above, with the reception room and adjoining sitting room just across the hall. The bedrooms are arranged across the two upper levels, with the opulent principal suite encompassing a dressing room, bathroom and a balcony overlooking the garden. It’s a truly extraordinary home – with a price tag to match.

Bathroom with brown marble walls and a matching bathtub.
