Forming the next chapter of a long and illustrious history, The Sloane Club has just announced a huge relaunch. Read on for the details.

The Sloane Club’s 2024 Relaunch: Everything You Need To Know

Dating back to 1922, The Sloane Club isn’t simply a members’ club, but a legendary Chelsea institution, formerly serving as The Ex-Service Women’s Club for those leaving the army. And while it might have opened its doors over a century ago, the future of the incredible Club is looking bright – especially following the recent announcement of its 2024 refurbishment and relaunch.

At the heart of the project is the Club’s new ethos: ‘one space, for the whole self’. As part of this exciting vision, the Club’s existing facilities are being totally transformed – think brand new restaurants and bars, sumptuous lounges, private event spaces, and an all-season roof terrace, alongside gorgeous interior design courtesy of Russell Sage Studio (the team behind the breathtaking refurbishment of The Goring). The plans also include the revamp of all 66 bedrooms and suites, plus a brand new fitness and wellness facility and a co-working space.

The Reception Lounge

Neena Jivraj Stevenson, Queensway Culture Officer and MD of The Sloane Club, noted that ‘the Club has always celebrated bringing people together. It was pioneering in its infancy, when it opened in 1922, to provide accommodation, friendship and community for women who served in the war. Today sees a new evolution, with the same principles at heart.’

Anna Jackson, General Manager of The Sloane Club, added: ‘Our transformation of The Sloane Club will bring the historic club into a new realm, combining its significant history with a pioneering approach to how a community can and should constantly evolve.’

So, what exactly can members expect? Here’s the rundown.

Restaurants & Bars

Three new restaurants and one incredible bar will open their doors at the end of the project. The first of these is Helena’s: an all-day dining spot offering sharing plates, salads and seasonal specials, plus wine, cocktails and smoothies. (The star of the show here is an outdoor terrace providing picture-perfect views over Lower Sloane Street.) Meanwhile, The Venus Room – referencing the Venus Fountain in Sloane Square – will showcase locally sourced produce and innovative dishes inspired by the changing of the seasons. Head here to sample an extensive wine list curated by the Club’s sommelier.

If you’re after tipples and light bites, you’ll want to check out The Demob Bar, which pays homage to the ex-servicewomen of The Sloane Club after they were ‘demobilised’ from the army at the end of the war. Expect top-notch whiskey sours and bar snacks like black truffle and parmesan biscuits (plus gorgeous interior design by Russell Sage Studio; think pendant lights, low armchairs and a breathtaking tented ceiling). Finally, The Club’s crowning jewel is its incredible Roof Terrace, which will be home to a dazzling restaurant with an Asian-inspired menu.

Wellness

The Club’s brand new wellness facility aims to honour the importance of wellness in our busy lives, helping members to seamlessly integrate rejuvenating practices into their daily routines. The lower level of the space will be a dedicated ‘sanctuary’ featuring gym equipment, a separate fitness studio, and treatment rooms. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing gym session, a high-energy personal training class or a relaxing treatment, you’ll find it all right here, courtesy of leading practitioners from across Chelsea and beyond.

Bedrooms & Suites

Taking inspiration from the elegant houses in the Chelsea Mews, every one of the Club’s 56 bedrooms and 10 suites has been exquisitely refurbished by the team at Russell Sage Studio.

Russell Sage himself reflected: ‘We’ve been greatly influenced by the story of the Sloane Club as a unique place of sanctuary and connection – still incredibly relevant for today. It’s inspired us to reimagine each space through the voices and stories of the incredible women who created and populated this special Club, as well as its Kensington & Chelsea home, all told in a contemporary accent for a modern-day membership.’

When Will The New Spaces Open?

The Sloane Club’s relaunch is set to unfold in stages: while some areas (including Helena’s and The Demob Bar) will be unveiled in winter 2024, others (like The Venus Room and The Roof Terrace) will open in spring 2025.
