It promises to improve skin after four weeks of regular use
Skin tech is on the rise, with at-home laser, LED and microcurrent devices becoming increasingly popular as a supplement for great skincare. It can all be a bit confusing when it comes to pairing the right skincare with the right tools and techniques, so one facial device promising to combine them all is an appealing prospect. But does it actually work? Rebecca Cox puts the Lightinderm LED facial device to the test.
The Lightinderm LED Device
What Is It?
Lightinderm is a clinical-grade, scientifically-proven advanced LED facial device designed to be used at home for safe and effective skin repair and rejuvenation. It combines light therapy with skincare serums to target various skin concerns through six different programmes. These are: Repair, Lift, Redness, Eyes, and Purity.
LED Devices For Skin: What’s The Deal?
LED devices in beauty utilise different wavelengths of light to target various skin concerns. Red and near-infrared light stimulate collagen production and cellular renewal for reducing wrinkles and firming skin tone. Blue light has antimicrobial properties ideal for treating acne. Green light helps break down excess pigmentation for a more even skin tone. Yellow light calms redness and rosacea with its anti-inflammatory effects. Red and near-infrared wavelengths are also believed to promote faster wound healing after procedures or injuries.
At-home LED devices are ideal since multiple treatments are usually needed to see lasting effects, and multiple salon visits are often not practical.
How Does It Work?
Lightinderm combines three technologies for triple stimulation of the skin: light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that emit wavelengths of light, calibrated for six programmes; active serums containing ingredients that are activated by the LED light; facial massage to enhance the penetration of the active ingredients and light.
Are There Clinical Studies?
Along with 47 patents for the products, there have been 12 clinical studies on the final product, proving the safety and efficacy of the device. A clinical study published in the Journal of Biophotonics demonstrated significant increases in skin density, radiance, and wrinkle reduction after 28 days of daily use, with no side effects.
How Does It Differ From Other LED Devices?
Unlike blanket LED masks, Lightinderm’s light is precisely targeted and concentrated, so it needs only three minutes of daily use. The specific LED wavelengths boost the effects of the accompanying photo-active serums by up to 200%.
My Verdict
I followed the ‘Lift’ programme for four weeks, and noticed my skin felt smoother and appeared brighter, and the nasolabial folds (the lines between your nose and the corner of your mouth, I didn’t know either) less pronounced. I have a very busy schedule – and short attention span – and find it hard to stick to a regular skincare regime, but this takes just three minutes a day, which even I can find time for after my two-minute electric toothbrush routine in the evening. There’s also a blue ‘Purity’ serum which is great for blemish and break-out prone skin, so I use that occasionally in the morning, since oil production peaks around midday. My favourite thing about the Lightinderm is how easy it is to travel with: the charge lasts at least a week so you can pop it in your carry-on and no need to worry about the 100ml rule as each mini capsule contains a week’s worth of serum. Just add your favourite moisturiser and you’re good to go. The only drawback is the price commitment: lift capsules are £90 for four weeks’ worth, which works out at around £3 a day.
How?
The Lightinderm device costs £400, capsules start at £80 for four. Available at lightinderm.com or johnbellcroyden.co.uk.
