Is this the most chic tea in town?
The Daisy Green Collection is renowned for its brunches, but this summer the Australian restaurant group is venturing into afternoon tea territory with a brand-new Audrey Hepburn-inspired offering.
Larry’s at the National Portrait Gallery Is Introducing Afternoon Tea
Coming to Larry’s in the National Portrait Gallery this summer, the experience will be an homage to the British icon, who began her life as a cabaret dancer in Ciro’s nightclub on Orange Street – now the National Portrait Gallery’s headquarters.
The offering will channel Hepburn’s elegance with an array of patisserie, finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones, inspired by her most famous film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Sweet treats will include a ‘$50 for the Powder Room’ purse, made of 54 percent Callebaut dark chocolate and passionfruit mousse, and ‘Seeing Sally Tomato’ sunglasses, created with chocolate and salted caramel. There will also be a ‘Revlon Pink’ lipstick with raspberry cremeux, a ‘Pearl Necklace’ macaron finished with edible pears, and a Marsbar cheesecake reimagined as the ‘Blue Giftbox’.
It’s not all about the sweet stuff though. There will also be a selection of savoury delicacies including sandwiches of hot smoked salmon and horseradish cream, and chicken caesar with macadamia, alongside chorizo croquettes, wagyu party pies and corn fritters with avocado cream. And, of course, it wouldn’t be afternoon tea without freshly baked scones, served here with raspberry conserve and Cornish clotted cream.
All this can be topped off in true Hepburn style: with a glass of champagne, or a signature Hepburn White Lady cocktail, while enjoying live jazz piano.
Subterranean bar and restaurant Larry’s arrived in the vaults of the National Portrait Gallery in 2022, following the venue’s extensive renovation. The Daisy Green group wrecked with the gallery to curate a selection of over 100 portraits from its collection, celebrating legends of the West End, which line the walls of the eatery. The space has a glamorous yet cosy vibe, with warm lighting and hints of gold: the perfect setting for a Hepburn-inspired tea.
