Forget Barbie: it’s all about another blonde doll this year ahead of another Mattel movie in the works. Here’s how to bag a sleepover with Polly Pocket herself.

Airbnb Launches A Life-Size Polly Pocket Rental

First thing’s first: Polly Pocket’s compact has been blown up to human proportions – so there’ll be no stooping to clamber inside. The 1994-themed girly pad is inspired by the popular toy’s compact mirror home, reimagined as a two-story pad featuring nostalgic surprises left and right, transporting guests right back to their childhoods.

‘I can’t wait for you to visit and help celebrate my birthday in my most epic compact ever,’ says Polly. ‘Let’s have some serious slumber party fun in my hometown of Littleton, where we make the ordinary extraordinary. There’s adventure to be had from my closet full of nostalgic fashion fun to the surprises I’ve left hidden around the compact. The fun is endless!’

Last year, Mattel – the toy brand behind Barbie and Polly Pocket as well as Hot Wheels, Monster High and Barney – confirmed a Polly Pocket movie was in the works, so we’re sure this nostalgic stay will precede some more news on that front. However, just last month, writer Lena Dunham told The New Yorker she had stepped away from the project, in part because Barbie director Greta Gerwig created a flick that was ‘perfectly and divinely Greta’. Despite working on a script for three years, Dunham has thrown in the towel. ‘I felt like, unless I can do it that way, I’m not going to do it,’ she said. ‘I don’t think I have that in me. I feel like the next movie I make needs to feel like a movie that I absolutely have to make. No one but me could make it. And I did think other people could make Polly Pocket.’

What To Expect

Situated in Polly’s native Littleton in Massachusetts, the 42-foot-tall compact features:

• Polly’s vanity stuffed with nostalgic hair and nail accessories in all of her favourite colours
• A retro fridge packed with the snacks every ‘90s kid wanted
• A wardrobe filled with life-size doll clothes for some serious throwback looks; think joyful hues, glossy silhouettes and that signature gummy texture
• A living room set up with popcorn, a movie and pillows galore – plus a pull-out couch
• Materials to craft custom Polly Pocket charm bracelets
• Polly’s Action Park Tent: a cosy, glamping-style pod just 10 feet away

How To Book

Three one-night stays are available for fans to book, on either 12, 13 or 14 September 2024. Bookings will go live on 21 August 2024 at airbnb.com

The stay is for four guests, priced at $89 per person – a nod to Polly’s debut on the scene in 1989. Guests are responsible for their own travel to and from Littleton, Massachusetts.

For any dolls who are unable to book the stay, it’s not over: Polly will also open her home for 21 experiences for up to 12 guests each for a day-time adventure from 16 September–6 October 2024. Bookings will go live on 21 August 2024 at airbnb.com
