Add this to your spiritual toolkit
The moon is a pivotal part of astrology, believed to hold a strong symbolic power. Mystics, witches and spiritualists alike believe lunar cycles impact everything from mood to sleep, and practices often involve connecting with the moon through meditating or crystals. But have you ever considered harnessing its power through your glass of water? Say hello to moon water, the infusion which can be used as part of your spiritual wellness routine.
What Is Moon Water?
Moon water is water that’s infused with moonlight after being left outdoors overnight. Devotees believe the substance can tap into the moon’s lunar energy – essentially creating a tool that can be used for everything from drinking to cleansing your home.
When To Make Moon Water
It’s traditionally made under the light of a full moon, when the moon’s energy is at its most potent. You can also make it during the gibbous moon, when the moon appears to bulge outward but isn’t quite full. Astrologists advise against making moon water during an eclipse, though, as this is believed to overpower lunar energy. If you want to go full woo-woo, you can do some reading about how the zodiac signs affect the moon’s energy, and plan your moon water creation for the vibe which calls out to you the most. A full moon in Virgo, for instance, is associated with pragmatism and methodology, while a full moon in Leo is more about vibrancy and expressive energy.
How To Make Moon Water
- Begin by finding the right container – this could be a mason jar, a vase, a nice piece of glassware or simply a bottle. Next, add some water. Consider what you’re planning to use your creation for (ideas on that below): if you’re going to drink it, ensure it’s from the tap or a bottle, or if you’re planning to use it to feed your plants or cleanse your home, fresh water from a nearby river could work well.
- Set an intention – either via a short meditation, or a written practice. Some people like to tape their intention to the container, or place it beneath.
- Place the vessel somewhere outside. A windowsill works well if you don’t have access to a garden. You also have the option to surround the jar with crystals or any trinkets associated with your intention. If you are planning to drink it, you can wrap your container with a cloth and secure it with a string or band to prevent wildlife getting in.
- Leave the water to charge overnight, and voila: you’ll wake up to a fresh cup of moon water.
