Second Hand September hits the runway

September is a big month for London’s style set, with Fashion Week descending on the capital in a whirlwind of catwalks, presentations and events. But amongst the hubbub of newness sits a different kind of fashion show, one dedicated to secondhand treasures. We’re of course talking about Oxfam, who will once again be taking over London Fashion Week with a star-studded show, held in collaboration with Vinted, as part of its Second Hand September campaign.

Style For Change: Oxfam Takes Over London Fashion Week With Vinted

Have you checked this season’s LFW schedule? Tucked between the high-profile designers and glitzy dinners, you’ll find Oxfam’s Style for Change, a runway show dedicated to spotlighting pre-loved fashion on a mainstream stage.

Taking place on the first day of London Fashion Week, Oxfam have teamed up with online marketplace Vinted to curate a collection of high fashion looks – all in aid of the Second Hand September campaign. Brought together by stylist and secondhand fashion pioneer, Bay Garnett, the looks on show will be worn by a line-up of famous faces.

‘Oxfam are thrilled to have Vinted as our partner for our Style for Change fashion show, as part of our Second Hand September campaign this year,’ said Kehinde Brown, Oxfam’s Strategic Communications Lead, and director of this year’s show. ‘Together, we are on a mission to make second-hand fashion mainstream, so it is a wonderful and authentic pairing. Our fashion show will be the ultimate display of sustainable fashion, which we hope will inspire people to discover the joys of second-hand clothing.

‘Vinted has captured the mainstream and championed pre-loved fashion like no other online marketplace has, so we can’t think of anyone better to be partnering with to help prove that second-hand does not mean second best and that by embracing pre-loved clothing, individuals can express their personal style while contributing to a larger cause,’ she continued. ‘As well as inviting people to shop more consciously to help our planet, Vinted’s support will help us continue to raise money for Oxfam’s life-saving work to tackle poverty and inequality across the world.’

Now in its fifth year, Oxfam’s Second Hand September a 30-day campaign that encourages people to shop secondhand and donate clothes they no longer use. Over the years, it has helped thousands of people shop more sustainably through pre-loved avenues, supporting Oxfam’s goal to reduce the fashion industry’s impact on the environment. You can find out more about Second Hand September here.

‘Second-hand is a growing megatrend that helps to spark essential conversations about breaking the norm when it comes to shopping and fashion consumption,’ commented Marianne Gybels, Vinted’s Senior Director of Sustainability. ‘Vinted aims to make pre-loved clothing easy and accessible to everyone and everywhere. Partnering with Oxfam for Second Hand September is a fantastic opportunity to advance our shared mission. Together, we can collectively champion the tremendous potential of pre-loved fashion and inspire people to embrace second-hand choices, fostering a shift towards more circular behaviours.’
