Here’s why it’s important

The Caring Family Foundation (TCFF) and prestigious London members’ club Annabel’s have officially launched Annabel’s for the Amazon 2024, another year of their charitable campaign raising crucial funds for reforestation in the Amazon Rainforest. With it comes a delightful facade at the London club for visitors and passersby to enjoy. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is It?

Annabel’s for the Amazon is an annual month-long initiative raising awareness and funds for reforestation efforts in Brazil. Back for its fifth consecutive year, Annabel’s and TCFF work closely with indigenous communities to plant trees, distribute meals and deliver domestic abuse services in the UK and Brazil.

Often called the lungs of the Earth, Brazil’s rainforest is threatened with deforestation, illegal logging and mining, which endanger the biodiversity but also threaten the livelihoods and food sources of indigenous populations. Sadly, many children in the Brazilian rainforest suffer from poor nutrition, and a limited access to medical care worsens the issues they face.

Now one of the UK’s largest donors to Brazilian reforestation, to date, TCFF has planted more than 2 million trees, distributed more than 2 million meals, and delivered more than 20,000 domestic abuse services in the UK and Brazil. This year’s campaign hopes to deepen the TCFF’s social impact, providing funding to 14 community seedling nurseries across five different regions, to empower families to increase their economic wellbeing over a three-year period. Meanwhile, continuing to work with SOS Amazônia, the TCFF will help generate sustainable food and income, assisting thousands of people in the Brazilian rainforest. And with the Associação Médicos da Floresta (Forest Doctors Association) being TCFF’s latest partner, this year’s Annabel’s for the Amazon campaign will provide essential ophthalmological, paediatric, and gynaecological care to these indigenous communities.

On 19 September, the annual Annabel’s for the Amazon Gala will celebrate five years, reflecting on achievements so far and the works still to be done. The evening will raise funds for the cause and feature a live charity auction conducted by Simon de Pury, alongside a special guest performance.

How To See It

The special Amazon facade is now up on Annabel’s Berkeley Square club for visitors and passersby to enjoy. It features a striking Indigenous headdress, traditionally worn by community leaders and symbolising the strength and resilience of people fighting to protect the Amazon and its rich biodiversity. You will also spot a single burning feather, serving as a reminder of the fragility of the Amazon’s ecosystem.

The display is crafted using sustainably sourced materials alongside recycled materials from the displays of previous years.

See It: The display is now up at Annabel’s (46 Berkeley Square, London W1J 5AT).
