Launching Today: Jimmy Choo’s Second Collab With Sailor Moon

Missed out on the first round of Jimmy Choo x Sailor Moon madness? Well, you’re in luck. The luxury label has joined forces with author Naoko Takeuchi once more on a brand new line of shoes, bags and accessories – with the spotlight shifting to a new set of characters from the franchise.

It looks like we’ll be saying ‘Moon Prism Power, Make Up!’ a lot more in the near future, as Jimmy Choo has just unveiled new plans for yet another collaboration with the team behind Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Coming to stores this October, the new collection will once more celebrate one of the biggest manga franchises in pop culture history.
Before we get into the details, let’s recap. The 2023 capsule put the spotlight on five major characters: Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus. But with its upcoming instalment in the Jimmy Choo x Sailor Moon universe, the brand has a few more tricks up its sleeve.
‘I love what Sailor Moon represents,’ commented Sandra Choi, Creative Director of Jimmy Choo. ‘The power that comes from femininity, a strength found through unity, the belief that you can protect the good. I find those ideas inspiring and it continues to amaze me how Sailor Moon touches and inspires so many people around the world, the genuine love of the fans across generations. It was exciting for me to further explore the super heroines of this deep and rich creative universe. I was interested in honouring a true reflection of the Manga, the characters – the escapism, and the idea of the Guardians as pop icons.’
The new collection, which promises to ‘delve deeper into the story of the Sailor Guardians,’ will focus on five more characters from the manga series through shoes, bags and accessories. The characters are: Sailor Chibi Moon or ‘Chibi-Usa’, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn.
‘I was stunned by the ultimate cuteness from the 2023 Jimmy Choo collaboration product line up, especially the pink crystal boots,’ said author Naoko Takeuchi. ‘I am very happy to be able to collaborate again this year. In particular I love the shoes of the guardians of outer planets, and the multicoloured products. I definitely want to have the bracelet and vanity bags.’
The collaboration is a continuation of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations, which so far have included e-books, musicals and fan clubs, as well as official stores and exhibitions. The team behind the manga series has also announced that the long-awaited art book, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Raisonné ART WORKS 1991-2023, will also be released later this year.
Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Highlights
As with its predecessor, the 2024 instalment of the Jimmy Choo x Sailor Moon collaboration features a selection of bags and accessories inspired by the transformational power of the Guardians. Leading the collection are pairs of shoes inspired by Sailor Chibi Moon, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn – with designs based on the attire of each Guardian as illustrated within the manga series. The soles of each style also feature the astrological emblem of each Sailor Guardian, highlighting their unique identities.
Sailor Chibi Moon
Represented by a pair of platform-soled knee-high boots, Sailor Chibi Moon’s emblem shoe comes in baby pink and features a buckle across the vamp with a metal heart, bordered at the knee and around the welt in white.
Sailor Uranus
This Guardian’s signature blue ankle boots are reinterpreted as stretch ankle sock-boots, with a lacquered DROP heel.
Sailor Neptune
Looking pretty in emerald green are a pair of high-heeled velvet pumps is Sailor Neptune. The design, inspired by the original character’s heels, feature a pointed vamp scattered with crystals and laced at the ankle with velvet ribbon.
Sailor Pluto
A navy high-heeled boot bordered in white reflects the original illustration of Sailor Pluto. Her signature bow and heart emblem also make an appearance in Bordeaux velvet and crystals, perched at the back of the ankle.
Sailor Saturn
And Sailor Saturn is represented by a pair of purple laced-up tech-knit boots, which feature a low drop heel and sleek silhouette.
Other characters featured in the collection include Super Sailor Moon and Luna, Sailor Moon’s mentor cat. The two are reimagined as the Marlow Mocassin, with Super Sailor Moon reimagined in pink leather, iridescent crystals and a velvet bow, and Luna in black glitter, a velvet bow and an enamel rendering of the character on the vamp. There’s also an appearance from Chibi-Usa’s legendary LUNA-P ball, as a chain-handle bag covered in crystals.
Love hearts also form a core motif. Appearing on eyelets, studs and buckles, and shaping crystal detailing, they reflect the hearts worn by each Guardian, as well as the love shared by fans of the series. ‘Super Sailor Moon emerges when all the Sailor Guardians unite,’ noted the brand. ‘The notion of fashion as a means of transformation, the fantasy of becoming a different character – an idea central to Sailor Moon, has always inspired Jimmy Choo.’
Other footwear and accessories draw from original manga artworks by Naoko Takeuchi. The scenes selected commemorate each Guardian, celebrating moments of transformation within Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. You’ll find them on cardholders, Air Pods cases and scarves, as well as the Diamond Tote, Palma Maxi sneaker and the Avenue Vanity Bag.
Collectors’ Cards
Collectors and superfans can also get in on the fun this time round. Spread amongst the collection are 24 exclusive collector cards, with designs for each Sailor Guardian and two group designs – plus rare versions. The cards are randomly placed in the packaging, with each purchase guaranteed to contain at least one pack of three cards. All small leather goods and soft accessories will come with one pack, while shoes and bags will contain two packs and the Crystal Minaudiere bag four packs.
