Countryside style is coming in hot for AW24
If there’s one name we associate with Barbour, it’s Alexa Chung. One of the early adopters of countryside chic, the British model has been spotted many times over the years wading through the crowds at Glastonbury in a pair of wellies and a wax jacket (Barbour, of course). But now that festival season is over, Chung has returned to Barbour for a new season – taking a creative lead in the brand’s latest AW24 offering.

The Edit, By Alexa Chung: Barbour’s AW24 Collection
It’s not the first time Alexa Chung has turned her hand to fashion – nor the first time she’s worked with Barbour – but there’s something special about this capsule. Chung, who stands in the middle of an overgrown allotment backdropped by London’s signature grey skies and tower blocks, is the epitome of British chic in a long brown coat and silky trousers. She seems unbothered by the prospect of getting dirt on her clothes. In fact, she’s delving straight into the action – with a pitchfork in one hand and a bunch of freshly pulled carrots in the other.
It’s likely a familiar feeling for Chung, who spent her childhood riding through the fields of Hampshire and many summers slogging through the mud at Glastonbury – all with a Barbour jacket wrapped around her.
Her latest collaboration with the British heritage label is, therefore, a bit of a full circle moment. Taking on the role of Creative Director and Designer for Barbour’s new collection, ‘The Edit, by Alexa Chung’, the model wanted to create a line that was personal and driven by her own experiences with the brand up to now.
‘I am so pleased to be exploring a new chapter with Barbour,’ Alexa Chung reflected. ‘Designing this collection was a total joy. My intention was to create something immediate that reflects my wardrobe, interests and style in this moment, while staying true to the brand’s epic heritage.’
Working closely with Barbour’s in-house team, Chung found inspiration in vintage styles for the new collection. The result was a line comprised timelessly rendered outerwear, clothing, and (a first for the pair) wellington boots.
Highlights include wax jackets with tartan liners, colourful quilted jackets and knitwear crafted by Harleys of Scotland. A short wellington inspired by Alexa’s Chelsea boot and a versatile slip-on clog round off the collection with footwear.
‘It was such an easy decision to work with Alexa again this season as she is so synonymous with the brand, having worn Barbour from being a child,’ commented Paul Wilkinson, Group Commercial Director at Barbour. ‘Using Barbour’s archive and Scottish tartan heritage, Alexa infused her personality to create a timeless collection of modern wardrobe essentials, which we are so excited to launch to our customers globally.’
