Forget pumpkin spice - this season is all about Posh Spice
Is short bob season behind us? The style set seems to think so. Cue the posh lob, the long bob hairstyle made popular by OG Spice Girl and trendsetter, Victoria Beckham.
What Is A Posh Lob?
‘A posh lob is a versatile, grown-out bob length cut,’ explains Johnathon Eagland, Senior Stylist at Nicola Clarke x John Frieda Salon. ‘It can be styled in a multitude of different ways, but more recently has shown up with this polished but slightly tousled look.’

The name, as you might have guessed, comes from Posh Spice herself: Victoria Beckham. The designer has stuck to longer, beachy waves in recent years – but in a surprising turn of events she has decided to bring back her Spice Girls era long bob. Worn in a sleek centre part, Beckham wore her glossy strands to the tops of her shoulders in a slight wave (keeping up the beachiness). And now, with bob mania starting to taper off as we approach the colder months, it seems like the perfect answer to an out-grown bob. An off-duty hairdo with enough sophistication for everyday wear. So we’re calling it: posh lob autumn is here.
Who Suits This Cut?
The versatility of the posh lob makes it super easy to adapt to multiple face shapes, although those with round, oval and longer face shapes might gel best with the cut. It’s also good news for all hair textures; the emphasis is on the length of the cut, rather than the style, so it’s open for all to try it.
How To Ask For A Posh Lob In The Salon
If you’re after the Victoria Beckham special, ask your stylist for a centre part long bob with minimal soft layers. The styling is down to you, but the cut looks just as good kept sleek and straight as it does with some natural texture.
If you really want to get the point across, you can also bring in some references for your stylist to work from. ‘It’s always best to take photos and inspiration for your stylist,’ emphasises Jonathon. ‘This will enable them to have a good consultation with you.’

How To Style A Posh Lob
As mentioned, it’s the off-duty appeal of a posh lob that makes this hairstyle such a hit right now. ‘You can always let this style air dry,’ notes Jonathon. ‘This will help get the best natural look possible.’
But for a more polished feel, you can always turn to tongs and a hairdryer. ‘Heat styling can give the posh lob an elegant and polished feel,’ confirms the stylist. ‘Wear it in glossy waves, or pulled back into a cute, sleek bun. For the latter, you can even tap into a nostalgic 90s/00s feel with a few pieces hanging down at the front.’
What Next?
Expect more posh lobs in the salon going forward. ‘It’s part of the cycle of getting a bob,’ notes Jonathon. ‘People go short, grow it out and then cut it short again to get a buzz of adrenaline. The posh lob is simply the hottest transitional cut of the moment.’
