What Is Oyster Blonde?

‘Oyster blonde is luminous and a highly toned blonde,’ explains Anna Wiig, hair stylist and founder of wiig haircare. ‘It has mainly cooler tones while keeping touches of your natural dimension. The colour is essentially a soft pearlescent blonde, just like an oyster.’

And with winter rolling around, it’s the perfect time to embrace cooler tones in the salon. But where Scandi blonde might have ruled the roost last year, this time its all about the pearlescent, layered shades you’d find in your local rock pool.

Who Suits This Colour?

Being such a cool tone means this trend will need some tailoring to make it work for each individual. But some people will have an advantage. ‘Those with a typical mousy hair colour are perfect for this colour, as well as those with naturally lighter skin tones,’ notes Anna.

How To Ask For Oyster Blonde Hair In The Salon

In the salon, you’ll want to ask for a super light and cool shade of blonde. ‘I would recommend highlights of soft balayage that need to be fine and lightened past the brassy stage, ensuring the use of a good toner to achieve that radiating blonde tone,’ adds Anna.

You can also bring in reference images for your stylist, so they can see what tones you’re after.

How To Maintain The Colour

Blonde is a notoriously difficult shade to maintain during salon visits – but good upkeep is important to ensure the colour stays fresh. Anna recommends using the wiig ash toning treatment, which acts as a three-in-one bond, repair and tone at-home treatment.
