Featuring a familiar foe
Netflix and the BBC are bringing beloved British characters Wallace and Gromit back to screens across the globe this Christmas with a brand new film. Created with Aardman, the fun-filled flick will see the return of one of the film industry’s most vicious villains: Feathers McGraw. Here’s exactly what to expect from Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
What To Expect From Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
‘Returning to Wallace and Gromit is like meeting up with family friends,’ says Aardman’s four-time Academy Award-winning director Nick Park, who is back to direct Vengeance Most Fowl. ‘People respond to them because they feel so familiar. They’re like an old married couple in some ways, who know each other so well – it’s a sort of love-hate relationship, but when the chips are down, they are always there for each other. Wallace pushes Gromit’s loyalty to the extreme, and Gromit always wants Wallace to change. It’s something everyone can relate to.’
So what has Wallace done this time, and how will Gromit respond?
The Plot
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will reacquaint audiences with our favourite inventor, Wallace, and his loyal pup, Gromit – who themselves will come face-to-face with their nemesis Feathers McGraw. Having been introduced to the universe back in the 1993 short film, The Wrong Trousers, Feathers McGraw is back in Wigan, and it seems he is out for revenge.
In MCU style, the dastardly penguin’s return was teased in the final scene of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. In Vengeance Most Fowl, Gromit will once again have to save his master from one of his foiled inventions. In fact, Gromit already thinks Wallace is becoming too reliant on his inventions when he creates a ‘smart’ gnome that seems to develop a mind of its own. (Topical…) When it emerges the gnome is in fact masterminding things, Gromit knows he must battle the sinister forces at hand, or Wallace may never be able to invent again.
Of course, Feathers McGraw is back in the picture, too. ‘One of our most asked questions is, “When will Feathers come back?”,’ shares co-director Merlin Crossingham. ‘Well now is the time, and he’s back with a vengeance.’
And the gnome invention? ‘We are delighted to introduce Norbot, a nifty odd-jobbing robot gnome, designed to help Gromit with his gardening chores,’ directors Park and Crossingham said. ‘Norbot is Wallace’s most proud achievement to date and, according to Wallace, his “best invention ever”! Garden gnomes have long been a part of Wallace and Gromit’s world, but this is no cute patio ornament. Norbot is the ultimate gnome – a “smart-gnome”. We’re so excited to see Wallace unleashing his latest invention, Norbot, into the world. However, his long-suffering pooch, Gromit, may be a little less sure…’
The Cast
After the man behind the original voice of Wallace, Peter Sallis, sadly passed away in 2017, Aardman stalwart Ben Whitehead is stepping into the role (he previously voiced Wallace in the episodic adventure game Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures and at the BBC Proms in 2012). Wallace’s loyal companion, Gromit, is of course entirely silent, as is Feathers McGraw – so their personalities are all down to the incredible animation.
Elsewhere in the community, Peter Kay will return to voice PC Mackintosh, alongside a stellar bill of voice actors. The full cast includes:
- Ben Whitehead as Wallace
- Peter Kay as PC Mackintosh
- Lauren Patel
- Reece Shearsmith
- Diane Morgan
- Adjoa Andoh
- Muzz Khan
- Lenny Henry
