The innovators fighting for our planet

A star-studded green carpet welcomed some of the world’s wisest eco-innovators to the Earthshot Prize 2024 awards ceremony last night, with five winners revealed in Cape Town, South Africa. The ceremony, hosted by Billy Porter and Bonang Matheba, was attended by Heidi Klum, Winnie Harlow, Nina Dobrev, Tobe Nwigwe and plenty more – all of whom were asked to don previously worn outfits or those made from recycled materials. But the real stars of the show were the winners, selected from this year’s 15 Earthshot finalists. Here’s a recap of what you missed.

What Is The Earthshot Prize?

First awarded in 2021, The Earthshot Prize is an environmental prize awarding, celebrating and boosting the work of innovators across the globe for creating environmental solutions. Launched by Prince William and David Attenborough in 2020, the prize was initially inspired by former US president John F Kennedy’s Moonshot Project, which set scientists the challenge of safely transporting astronauts to the moon and back. Meanwhile, the five prize categories were inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They cover: the climate, our oceans, our air, the protection and restoration of nature, and waste reduction.
