Is this Ireland’s answer to Claudia Winkleman?
We can’t wait to see series 3 of The Traitors, kicking off on BBC One on New Year’s Day – so this tidbit of news has us intrigued. Joining regional variations of the popular murder mystery series across the globe, the Republic of Ireland is joining the Traitors hype, with its own version coming in 2025. Here’s what you need to know.
The Traitors Ireland: Everything We Know So Far
It’s official: RTÉ is working on The Traitors Ireland, utilising the format popular in the UK, the US, New Zealand and across Europe, and pitting ordinary Irish folk against each other to win a cash prize in a game of deception, trust and betrayal.
Who Will Star?
Twenty-two contestants will compete in The Traitors Ireland, ordinary people from across the country selected via an open call. They’ll be tasked with weeding out the Traitors – with a cash prize of €50,000 at stake.
Who Will Be The Presenter?
Derry Girls star Siobhán McSweeney has been revealed as the presenter of The Traitors Ireland, guiding the Faithfuls and Traitors through their daily missions. ‘Like everyone, I am a huge Traitors fan so when I was asked to host the Irish version I jumped at the chance,’ Siobhán said on the news. ‘I’m looking forward to meeting our loyal Faithful and delicious Traitors. The Irish have a charm and ability to deceive while smiling which will make this version rather special, I think. And I’m the luckiest person in the world to watch them close up.’
No stranger to TV presenting, Siobhán is also known for hosting The Great Pottery Throw Down.
‘We’re really looking forward to bringing The Traitors Ireland to RTÉ audiences and delighted that Siobhán is going to be at the heart of it,’ adds Steve Carson, director of video at RTÉ. ‘She is an incredibly talented actor with a great comic and dramatic range. We know that she is going to bring something really special to Ireland’s version of this fantastic game of trust and deceit.’
Where Is The Traitors Ireland Filmed?
Perhaps it goes without saying that The Traitors Ireland will be filmed on location in Ireland – utilising one of the green nation’s very own remote castles instead of the Scottish castle we’re familiar with from the UK version.
Filming has not yet taken place; it is slated for Spring 2025.
Release Date
The Traitors Ireland will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player in 2025 – and we’re hoping it will come to UK screens, too.
