Meet the host of Channel 4's trending new show

Blood sugar tracking is one of the biggest wellness trends of the moment. While once only used by diabetics, wearable glucose trackers made their way into the mainstream in 2024 thanks to buzzy brands like Zoe (the brainchild of health guru Tim Spector). Social media has played a key part in the surge in interest, spurred on by blood sugar influencers like Jessie Inchauspé, widely known as The Glucose Goddess. And now, Jessie is fronting a new series on Channel 4, titled Eat Smart: Secrets of The Glucose Goddess, in which she shares the science behind her signature method – which she claims can help reduce inflammation, rebalance hormones and improve skin.

Who Is The Glucose Goddess?

Jessie Inchauspé, also known as The Glucose Goddess, is a French biochemist, influencer and author. After studying biochemistry at Georgetown University, Jessie made it her mission to translate cutting-edge science into tips on improving our health, with a focus on blood sugar. She founded an Instagram account, @glucosegoddess, which soared to popularity, and now has over five million followers.

She has also published two books: Glucose Revolution and The Glucose Goddess Method. The first is a deep dive into the topic of blood sugar, and how our food choices impact our mood and energy levels. The Glucose Goddess Method, meanwhile, offers a four-week step-by-step plan for ‘steadying your blood sugar into your everyday life’, complete with over 100 recipes and an interactive workbook.

Eat Smart: Secrets of The Glucose Goddess: What To Expect

This January, Jessie is sharing her advice via a new medium: a documentary series for Channel 4, Eat Smart: Secrets of The Glucose Goddess. Posting on Instagram, she wrote: ‘It’s hard to believe that we have an actual UK TV show on @channel4 premiering tomorrow at 8pm!! For the first time ever I followed 6 incredible people in person over 6 weeks (with the help of the amazing @doctors_kitchen and a whole team) to test whether my glucose hacks could help them with their issues: diabetes, cravings, acne, psoriasis, and more.’

She’ll be exploring how our blood sugar levels affect our overall health, delving into the latest science and testing her methods on real people. In episode one, for instance, Jessie works with Ashlee, who is struggling with severe acne, Omar, who suffers from sleep apnea, and Sophie, who needs support with weight loss. Can she transform their lives in just six weeks?

The first episode was filled with tips. Jessie recommends, for instance, the technique of ‘putting clothes in your carbs’ to avoid glucose spikes. ‘When we eat carbs, so that’s starches like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, or sugars, so anything sweet from an apple to a big slice of chocolate cake. When we eat those on their own, that’s called eating our carbs naked,’ she explains.

‘Clothing is protein, fats or fibres. Instead of having your pasta naked on its own, add some chicken, some spinach, some olive oil and it’s going to slow down how quickly the carbs arrive into your bloodstream, therefore slowing down the glucose spike and reducing their consequences.’
