Everything We Know So Far About On Call Season 2

If there’s one thing Prime Video does well, it’s the binge-worthy cop drama. The latest on our radar is On Call, an eight-part drama centred on Long Beach Police Department veteran training officer Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario) and her rookie partner Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente). But will there be an On Call season 2? Here’s what you need to know.

Will There Be On Call Season 2?

No news just yet from Prime Video on whether there will be a second season of On Call – but the cast and series creators are certainly hopeful. While most of the series threads were tied up neatly in the finale, that final episode also left some questions unanswered, which hopefully points to a future for the series. But: ‘We left some threads,’ series creator Tim Walsh tells TV Insider. ‘The fentanyl trade that Smokey [Lobo Sebastian] was involved in, that’s still out there hanging out there for us to take.’ With fentanyl and the opioid epidemic still very real and pertinent issues in the US, we’re sure there’s plenty of steam left in this side plot.

‘And then just all really the character stuff, quite honestly, that we want to explore more deeply in season 2,’ Walsh adds, referring to the core duo of Traci and Alex. ‘That’s really the focal point, is the two leads.’

Lead star Bellisario is also keen to delve deeper into Traci and Alex’s relationship, which she calls ‘infinitely complicated’. ‘I felt really grateful coming onto this show because I am playing a woman who is not leading with her looks,’ Bellisario adds. ‘She’s not dealing with anybody in a romantic way. She’s dealing with somebody in a very, very vulnerable and intimate way, but they are partners. And so I think what I’m very excited to continue to mine with Brandon and with his character of Diaz is, how much more can they be to each other? How much more can they learn from each other and how can they grow?’

The On Call Cast: Who Looks Familiar?

If the On Call cast seems familiar, here’s why. Bellisario – who leads the series as Traci – is best known for her breakout role as Spencer Hastings in Pretty Little Liars, while you might recognise her co-lead Larracuente (who stars as Alex) for his appearances in 13 Reasons Why and The Good Doctor.

An On Call scene stealer, however, is Lori Loughlin, who stars as Lieutenant Bishop and is best known for her role as Rebecca Donaldson Katsopolis in ABC’s Full House and its Netflix revival Fuller House. Most recently, however, Loughlin found herself in the limelight for negative reasons: she was one of the most famous participants in the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal, and spent two months in prison in 2020 on fraud charges as a result.

Where Was It Filmed?

On Call follows Traci and Alex as they drive around and respond to emergency calls in Long Beach – and the series was actually filmed in the coastal Californian city, too. Best known for its waterfront, Long Beach is located around 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, and its port is the second busiest container port in the US.
