Plus: season 2 ending explained

Netflix’s best sugary sweet cross-continental romcom is back for season 2 – and we’re savouring every moment. Plunging us back in the chaotic, unpredictable world of high-society Seoul, South Korea, XO, Kitty – a spin-off from Jenny Han’s To All The Boys book (and subsequent film) series – we follow Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart), a bubbly and confident American teenager on a journey to discover her late mother’s youth, her heritage and, of course, a healthy dose of true love.

Season 1 debuted back in May 2023, season 2 launched with eight more episodes in January 2025, so only one question remains: will there be XO, Kitty season 3? Here’s everything we know so far.

Will There Be XO, Kitty Season 3?

No news just yet from Netflix on whether XO, Kitty will return for season 3 – but things are looking hopeful. When season 2 was first announced by the streaming service, just under one month had passed since the show launched – so Netflix took its time assessing the success so far. In the meantime, the romcom shot into the top 10 charts in 50 countries, and we’re sure season 2 will be no different.

The most compelling hint that XO, Kitty season 3 is on its way? Kitty confirms she will be returning to KISS and Korea next semester; how could we not join her? Plus, there’s that cliffhanger finale… Spoilers ahead.

XO, Kitty Season 2 Ending Explained

Throughout XO, Kitty season 2, Kitty gradually uncovers information about Simon – the mysterious man her mother corresponded with when she was a student at KISS. ‘When you hear about Simon, of course the assumption is that’s a boyfriend, right? Kitty assumes that, probably the audience does,’ explains showrunner Jessica O’Toole. As it turns out, Simon is Kitty’s mother’s cousin, and the duo were planning to reunite their own mothers, who are sisters, who hadn’t spoken since Kitty’s halemoni (grandmother) emigrated to the US, leaving her sister behind in South Korea. In the XO, Kitty season 2 finale, the two estranged women – Kitty’s halemoni and her great aunt – agree to meet and make up after a whopping 50 years apart. Why was it so tricky to convince them? For the older South Korean generation, ‘it was easier to keep secrets and it was harder to repair relationships,’ says O’Toole. ‘Someone could move away and you wouldn’t hear from them, [or] be able to find them.’

Meanwhile, Kitty discovers she was right all along about Stella (Audrey Huynh): she has been blackmailing Kitty’s friend (and crush) Min-ho (Sang Heon Lee), blagging her way into his father’s Simon Cowell-style Shoot for the Moon talent show and threatening to reveal how Min-ho’s brother got one of his backup dancers pregnant if they don’t let her compete.

Luckily for Min-ho, once Kitty knows what’s going on, she’s not going to let Stella get away with it, and the gang puts a plan into action to catch her out. In the end, Eunice (Ryu Han-bi) wins the competition after Min-ho’s brother reveals the truth about his girlfriend on stage before getting down on one knee – so no more blackmail material.

What Happens Between Kitty & Min-ho?

Throughout the season, there’s a slow-burn between Kitty and her crush Min-ho. In the season 2 finale, he flies her grandmother and sister across the globe in his private jet after their flight is cancelled and, of course, Kitty saves his family from turmoil. As Q (Anthony Keyvan) summarises, ‘You clearly have an epic thing going on?’ So why no fireworks first kiss? Because it’s all about the slow burn, teases O’Toole: ‘longing is something that the audience also needs to do,’ she says.

There also needs to be a more natural progression from enemies to lovers. In fact, season 2 begins with Min-ho confessing his feelings for Kitty on their flight to LA – where she rejects him. So when Min-ho takes Kitty’s advice and dates Stella instead, the pressure is off the romance and the enemies to friends arc can begin. When everything goes haywire for Kitty in episode 4, Min-ho is there to comfort her: ‘That is an opportunity for Kitty to see that Min Ho is a really true friend and is someone who wants to show up for Kitty regardless of his feelings, regardless of his pride that she turned him down.’

By the end of the season finale, those friendship feelings are really (cherry) blossoming into something more – but we’ll only find out how it all unfolds if XO, Kitty season 3 goes ahead. Your move, Netflix.
