A soft crop for 2025
Craving a hair transformation? If you’re looking to bypass the bob, then you’re next port of call has to be the soft pixie cut – aka, the hair trend taking over salons this season.
What Is A Soft Pixie Cut?
‘A soft pixie is a short haircut that’s all about movement, texture and a natural finish,’ explains Domenico Casella, a stylist at Neville Hair and Beauty. ‘It features layers and feathered edges, which give it a relaxed, wearable look. Unlike a sharp, edgy pixie, this version is softer, more free-flowing and incredibly versatile for styling.’
The stylist tells us it’s this emphasis on layering and texture that sets the soft pixie apart from its predecessor. ‘While a traditional pixie can be angular or structured, the soft pixie creates a sense of lightness and dimension,’ he says. ‘Longer bangs or side-swept fringes are often added to frame the face, making it universally flattering. It’s a modern take on the classic pixie, offering softness, femininity, and an effortlessly chic aesthetic.

‘The soft pixie is a low-maintenance yet high-impact style,’ Domenica continues. ‘It’s perfect for anyone looking for a fresh, modern look that doesn’t require hours of styling. Plus, it’s highly adaptable – whether you prefer a polished finish or a more tousled, casual vibe, this cut delivers. It’s also become a favourite on social media, where people are embracing shorter, bolder styles.’
Who Suits This Cut?
As Domenico mentioned, this is a hairstyle that comes with bags of versatility. ‘It works beautifully on straight, wavy, or slightly curly hair,’ he tells us. ‘For finer hair, the layers create volume, while for thicker hair, the feathered ends reduce bulk.
‘A soft pixie also complements a variety of face shapes. Oval and heart-shaped faces look particularly stunning with a soft pixie, but adding tailored elements like side-swept bangs can make it flattering for round or square faces as well.’
How To Ask For A Soft Pixie In The Salon
‘When requesting a soft pixie, ask for layers that add movement and softness, with a slightly longer fringe or side-swept bangs to frame the face,’ advises Domenico. ‘Bring inspiration photos and discuss your lifestyle with your stylist –this helps us tailor the cut to your needs. If your hair has a specific texture or thickness, your stylist can recommend adjustments to make the cut work best for you.’

How To Style A Soft Pixie At Home
And good news for low-maintenance hair enthusiasts – this is a pretty straightforward cut to style. ‘Using the right products makes all the difference,’ notes Domenico. ‘To enhance volume and texture, apply a lightweight hair cream before blow-drying; this will help lift the roots and give the hair a fuller appearance. Then, for definition, you can use a hair paste to shape and define the layers without weighing the hair down. And finally, finish with a shine serum to add a healthy glow and tame any flyaways; this is essential for shine and softness, keeping the cut looking polished and fresh.’
What Next?
As for the future: ‘I see the soft pixie continuing to gain popularity, with clients customising it even further,’ muses Domenico. ‘We’ll likely see more textured finishes, playful colour additions like balayage or soft highlights, and tailored elements such as asymmetrical fringes. It’s a trend that will keep evolving because it’s so versatile and adaptable to personal style.’
