How To Wear Baby Bangs In 2025, According To Stylists

It’s that time of year when a hair transformation feels inevitable. But where to start? If an all-over chop doesn’t appeal, you can always start with a contained trim – aka, a fringe. Don’t panic. We wouldn’t lead you astray with this trend. Baby bangs are set to make a major comeback this year, according to haircare professionals. Here’s how to style them.

What Are Baby Bangs?

As the title gives away, baby bangs are ultra-short, cropped bangs that fall across the forehead and above. ‘They sit just above the eyebrows, and range from a full blunt fringe to a wispier, textured style,’ adds Samantha Cusick, Global ghd Ambassador. ‘The style was first popularised by flapper girls, and then went on to grace the faces of some of the biggest names of the mid-century – think Audrey Hepburn, Bettie Page and Twiggy.’

The look also saw a resurgence in the 70s (and later the 90s) – although underpinned by the grungier aesthetics associated with the alternative music scene. ‘With the 90s fashion revival in full swing, baby bangs (which were widely embraced during this time) are experiencing a resurgence fuelled by nostalgia,’ notes Samantha.

More recently, we’ve seen baby bangs return to their roots: sophisticated, romantic styling. Just look to the red carpet and you’ll see a plethora of stars wearing the look. ‘Ariane Grande has sported this hairstyle throughout awards season,’ highlights Samantha. ‘Her look primarily draws inspiration from Audrey Hepburn.’

Who Suits This Style?

To bang, or not to bang – that is the question. But who suits the cut best? ‘Oval and heart shaped faces suit them best, as they help to soften features,’ says Samantha. ‘However, with the correct styling they can suit most face shapes. They can also be worn by all hair types – although those with curly hair might have to opt for a longer length due to shrinkage.’

How To Ask For Baby Bangs In The Salon

In the salon, ask for cropped bangs above the brow. To help get your vision across, Samantha recommends preparing some ideas before your appointment. ‘Always prepare with inspiration photos of what you want your hair to look like, and be clear about your desired length and style.’ she says.

How To Style Them

Bangs require a little more hands-on styling – and Samantha notes that you’ll get best results by using styling tools. ‘The ghd Mini is my holy grail product for precision styling from the roots,’ she says. ‘Its sleek design allows you to effortlessly create straight styles or curls and waves.’

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Guide hair through a flat iron with a comb in the desired sections
  2. Pass the flat iron over the hair, rolling it underneath to create a soft curve
  3. Polish it off with hairspray so that the style holds

What Next?

‘They are here to stay,’ highlights Samantha. ‘But we can expect more variations with different lengths and textures, such as the Bardot blow with a bouncy blow-dry.’
