Valentine’s Table Setting Ideas
If you’re got your heart set on a cosy night in rather than a lavish restaurant reservation this Valentine’s Day, then congratulations: you’ve got the perfect excuse to create some picture-perfect table settings. And if you’re looking for fun plans with friends, the options are endless. From candle making to mug decorating, your tablescape can be built entirely around handmade creations. (Check out our guide to Valentine’s decor here.)

The best way to kick off your tablescape is with the colour palette; in this case, bold reds and pastel pinks are the winning combination. Deborah Brett, founder of dbCeramic, suggests a mix of ‘pink, red and gold’.
‘I like to use my favourite patterned porcelains to set the tone, then add pink and red linens and gold accents,’ she adds.
Layering sleek white charger plates with patterned dishes will tie together your colour scheme perfectly, creating a look that’s both contemporary and inviting. The finishing touches? ‘A white linen table cloth, pink scalloped place mats and red napkins to add a dash of Valentine’s flair,’ notes Deborah.
Want to level up your table settings with a bit of extra detail? Try these ideas…
Florals
No Valentine’s table setting is complete without a floral arrangement, but you don’t have to splash out at the florist.
‘There’s no need to make a grand gesture with a giant bouquet,’ Deborah states. ‘A couple of red and antique pink roses in a bud vase will make your table look stylish but not overcrowded.’
Napkin Rings
‘Forget the origami swans and the 1970s restaurant fan – the bow tie is the way to style your serviettes!’ says Deborah. ‘Simply thread your linens through a napkin ring and style across the place setting for nonchalant impact.’
Go for gold napkin rings if you’re after a bit of sparkle, or take a DIY approach and simply tie up your napkins using ribbon. Tuck a small flower or sprig of foliage inside for a final flourish.

Crafts
A quick scroll through Pinterest will provide you with plenty of inspiration if you’re looking to give your tablescape a DIY angle. Start small by tying bows around tapered candlesticks and wine glass stems, as well as hand-writing your name cards and menus.
Then, get your Galentine’s guests involved with glass painting, mug decorating and candle making, or decorate Valentine’s-themed biscuits for an edible addition to your table settings. (You can also try your hand at these delightful Victorian puzzle purses.) Finish things off with dishes of heart-shaped sweets and a scattering of Valentine’s confetti across your table runner, and your dreamy tablescape is complete…
