At the western end of Menorca, about an hour’s drive from MahĂłn’s airport, stands Son Vell: the picturesque setting for our spring fashion story. Now part of the family-owned Vestige Collection, this meticulously restored 18th century estate offers guests a peaceful haven from which to explore the island’s wild landscapes.

There are thirty-three rooms in total, six luxurious suites in the honey-hued main house, and a further twenty-seven in the more contemporary garden bungalows. The extensive grounds have been planted with fragrant Mediterranean gardens, citrus trees, olive groves, and an organic vegetable garden that supplies the hotel’s two restaurants.

Beyond the hotel’s enclave, the estate is made up of 180 hectares of fertile fields, dotted with traditional stone farm buildings. A short walk or bike ride through the sun-drenched farmland leads to the coast, where guests can plunge into the secluded waters of Cala Son Vell. For those wishing to explore further afield, the estate connects to the Camí de Cavalls, an ancient coastal bridleway perfect for hiking or horse riding.

In contrast to its livelier neighbours, Ibiza and Mallorca, the mellow island of Menorca remains free of motorways and high-rise hotels, making it especially appealing for travellers seeking unspoiled countryside. In 1993, the entire island was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, ensuring its landscapes remain protected from overdevelopment.

The Madera family, founders of Vestige, became custodians  of Son Vell in 2019, and together with architect Enrique Motilla, they delicately restored the heritage site, bringing the bones of this beautiful building back to life. Every corner, captured in our fashion story, has been  thoughtfully preserved and regenerated to provide guests with peaceful  areas to soak up moments of quiet reflection amid Menorca’s timeless beauty.
