Nima Safaei is opening a third restaurant in London, 27 Old Compton Street

While London has one of the world’s best restaurant scenes, sometimes it can feel unaffordable, so our interest is always piqued when we get word of a new spot offering great food at low prices. Arriving in Soho this March is 27 Old Compton Street, a casual pasta bar helmed by Nima Safaei, the restaurateur behind 40 Dean Street.

27 Old Compton Street Is Soho’s Hot New Pasta Bar

Inspired by the Italian concept of ‘tavolo calda’, which translates as ‘hot table’ (a type of relaxed cafeteria-style restaurant), 27 Compton Street will be the perfect new spot for a quick lunch in Soho, with high tables upstairs and plush booths below.

The menu will include an array of pasta dishes, with prices between £10 and £15, including rigatoni amatriciana, pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, gnocchi with cavolo nero, and paccheri puttanesca with tiger prawns. Dishes are designed to pair with a glass of wine (glasses start at £7) or cocktails including an Italian take on a Bloody Mary and a citrus-infused martini.

This will be the third Soho restaurant for Safaei. He opened 40 Dean Street back in 2009, which quickly garnered a cult following – and became so popular that Safaei decided to open another, 64 Old Compton Street. Both are inspired by Italian cooking, serving unpretentious food which is centred around the best ingredients, some sourced from local suppliers.

‘The concept of ‘tavola calda’ instantly resonated with me – I wanted to create that spot for fast, high-quality food that doesn’t compromise on taste or flavour,’ said Safaei. ‘27 Old Compton Street will be a place where people can drop in effortlessly, knowing they’ll get incredible pasta, fab drinks and a buzzing atmosphere.’

‘I’m delighted to be adding another string to my bow as a restaurateur and to embark on this challenge. It’s a totally different space to my other two sites – but one that still feels undeniably Soho. I can’t wait to welcome everyone to 27 Old Compton Street.’
