As award season continues, your next list of nominees has landed
While the US has the Tony Awards (forming the ‘T’ in ‘EGOT’), the UK’s answer is the Laurence Olivier Awards (or simply ‘The Olivier Awards’), our most prestigious theatre awards functioning as a seal of approval for stage actors performing in the UK. Originally known as the Society of West End Theatre Awards, they were renamed in honour of the English actor of the same name in 1984, and have only gained prestige since.
So who’s up for an award in 2025? Here’s the full list of Olivier Award nominees in 2025, including Adrien Brody hot off his Oscar Best Actor win, Black Doves star Ben Whishaw and Dame Imelda Staunton.

The Headlines
Leading the charge in 2025 is Fiddler on the Roof with 13 nominations, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s revival of Joseph Stein’s classic musical, which is set to transfer to the Barbican this summer. This includes Best Musical Revival, as well as four acting nods for the cast.
Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 trails with six nominations, The Years and Giant with five, followed by The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the Oliver! revival with four apiece.
In Best Actress, it’s the battle of the Jocastas: Lesley Manville and Indira Varma have both been nominated for the prestigious award for their portrayals of Oedipus’s mother-wife in separate productions of the classic Greek tragedy. While Mark Strong is nominated for Best Actor for his titular role, Rami Malek has been snubbed for his equal part. Robert Icke’s Oedipus is also up for Best Revival and Best Director, while Ella Hicke’s Oedipus, directed by Matthew Warchus at the Old Vic, has been tapped for Best Sound Design and Best Theatre Choreographer.
Strong has stiff competition in Best Actor: recent Oscar Best Actor champion Adrien Brody is up for the prize thanks to his performance in The Fear of 13. They’re joined by Billy Crudup for Harry Clarke, Paapa Essiedu for Death of England: Delroy and John Lithgow for Giant.
Over in Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Romola Garai has a 50:50 chance of winning thanks to a double nomination for her work in Giant and The Years. She is joined by The Years co-star Gina McKee and Sharon D Clarke for The Importance of Being Earnest.
