A nutritionist shares a no-yeast, high-protein pizza recipe
Traditionally, pizza dough is made using a mix of flour, yeast, water, olive oil and salt. But did you know it can also be whipped up with a secret hero ingredient: Greek yoghurt? Chefs have discovered this hack recently, no doubt inspired by TikTok, which is filled with recipes for two-ingredient pizza dough made with just Greek yoghurt and self-raising flour. And interest is on the rise, with Google searches for ‘Greek yoghurt pizza base’ having surged by 5,000 percent across the UK in the past 30 days. Keen to give it a try? Here nutritionist Lily Keeling has shared a recipe for the perfect Greek yoghurt pizza base.
Can You Make Pizza With Greek Yoghurt?
Greek yoghurt is a versatile ingredient that can be used to make dips, sauces and desserts, as well as being a regular fixture on breakfast tables, where it’s paired with granola and fruit. But this yoghurt can also be mixed with flour to create a high-protein pizza dough. Not only will this up the pizza’s nutritional value, there’s minimal prep time, and as there’s no yeast it doesn’t need time to rise – yet it still manages to bake perfectly, with a slightly chewy crust.

What Are The Benefits Of Greek Yoghurt?
Lily predicts Greek yoghurt will have its moment this year. ‘Last year we noticed an increase in popularity for cottage cheese as people started sharing recipes and cooking methods with this ingredient across social media platforms,’ she says. ‘Now, we can see searches for Greek yoghurt-inspired recipes inclining, and we think this ingredient will be the next big favourite amongst foodies and health-focused cooks. Greek yoghurt is easy to buy, good value, hugely versatile and most importantly packed with nutritional benefits.’
So what are the perks? Greek yoghurt is a source of healthy fats, which help lower your risk of heart disease and support brain function, as well as being high in protein – crucial for muscle growth and repair. This type of yoghurt also tends to be lower in sugar than regular varieties, plus it’s rich in vitamin B12, which is essential for keeping the nervous system healthy and forming red blood cells.
Recipe: Greek Yoghurt Pizza Base
Ingredients:
- 180g self-raising flour powder
- 240g plain Greek yoghurt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- A pinch of salt
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 230°C
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour and a pinch of salt and stir.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the Greek yoghurt. Use a spoon or your hands to mix until a dough starts to form. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour. If it’s too dry, add more yogurt.
- Once the dough has come together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Roll the dough out into your desired pizza shape.
- Add your desired sauce, cheese, and toppings.
- Bake the pizza for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy your Greek yoghurt pizza!
