From a simple beauty regime to a quiet moment of reflection, here's how the Princess of Wales starts her day
Morning routines are having a moment. TikTok is filled with videos of people sharing their five to nine: the rituals they do after waking up to prepare for the day. Some are backed by science, like the trending Mel Robbins routine, a five-step formula which involves simple things like making your bed and getting outside first thing. Others, meanwhile, are quite frankly bizarre: online entrepreneur Ashton Hall recently went viral for his six-hour routine which includes a 4am balcony workout, a soak in the hot tub and rubbing banana peel on his face. Nonetheless, all this chatter got us thinking: how do the royals start their day? We delve into the morning routine of Kate Middleton…
This Is How Kate Middleton Starts Her Day
You might assume a princess’s morning routine is worlds away from your own, but Kate Middleton’s is actually fairly relatable. A former cleaner at Buckingham Palace, Anne Simmons, told Edit Suits that Kate is ‘incredibly organised’, adding ‘no chaos, no luxury overload – just a handful of carefully chosen steps that she clearly trusts. There was one product for her hair, a natural moisturiser, and always a moment to herself before things got busy.’
Beauty Regime
According to reports, Kate wakes up sometime between 6.30am to 7am. Simmons said she’ll then splash her face with cold water, and add a few drops of argan oil onto her hair (The Ordinary is her go-to brand, apparently). Next, she uses a light moisturiser before enjoying a moment of stillness before the chaos of the day begins. Kate would ‘often sit by the window with a cup of tea for five minutes’, added the ex-royal cleaner, with ‘no phone, just silence.’ The final step is a minimal makeup routine. ‘She wasn’t doing a full face,’ revealed Simmons. ‘Just concealer, maybe a bit of blush. It was very quick and natural-looking.’

Family Time
Kate then gets her children up (George, Charlotte and Louis) to get them ready for school. It sounds like the quietness ends here: in an episode of Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk podcast, Prince William shared some insight into mornings in the Wales household. ‘Most mornings there’s a massive fight between Charlotte and George as to what song is played in the morning,’ he said, adding, ‘and I have to, now, basically prioritise that one day someone does this one, and another day it’s someone else’s turn. So George gets his go, then Charlotte gets her go. Such is the clamour for the music.’
The children squeeze in a bit of playtime before school too. ‘Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything,’ said William. ‘She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around, trying to do the same thing. It’s a really happy moment where the children just enjoy dancing, messing around and singing.’
Breakfast
While preparing the children’s breakfast, Kate allegedly loves a green smoothie made with spirulina, spinach, kale, matcha and blueberries. Although Kate and William have a nanny, they often drop their children at school themselves – all three currently attend Lambrook School in Berkshire, and the family moved to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022 to be nearby.
Exercise
Kate also enjoys regular workouts: a source told the Daily Mail: ‘The Princess is reportedly a fan of CrossFit and yoga, makes time to go for a run most days, enjoys cycling, and does most of her workouts without a personal trainer.’
Sometimes, though, exercise is slotted in with the kids where possible. When asked if she goes to the gym by members of the England Wheelchair Rugby Leave team, Kate said: ‘It’s running around after the children – I do it all, whenever I can squeeze in exercise I do, even jumping on the trampoline with my children before school.’
So there you have it: a royally-approved morning routine.
