We, of course, do not suffer from itchy scalps, yet we’re itching like mad to get over to this exhibit….

From 17 February – 7 April 2018, The Civic, a contemporary arts centre in the heart of South Yorkshire, will house a major exhibition that celebrates the history of hairdressing with a collaboration between celebrity hairdresser Andrew Baron, The Civic curator, Donna Bevan and the curator of visual arts for the Hull City of Culture, David Sinclair.

Expect to travel the length of hair’s legacy from root to tip. This multimedia exhibition both celebrates iconic hairstyles with archival material and highlights the way in which salons serve as community cornerstones. The advancement of design and technology, of course, draws surprising, inspiring, and perhaps humorous comparisons between then and now.

I’m passionate about supporting my hometown of Barnsley, which is why we chose The Civic to debut the exhibition. Barnsley has produced some of the most amazing talent and it’s where I started my hairdressing career. I’m very proud of Barnsley and thrilled that we have secured such a major exhibition for the town. -Andrew Barton
