Science, art, or somewhere in between? Wellcome Collection opens its spring exhibition tomorrow 8 March with a display of four contemporary artists’ collaborations with scientists.

‘Somewhere in Between’ features Martina Amati, Daria Martin, Maria McKinney and John Walter’s art that interprets human experience, sense, sexual health, bodily limitation and position on the food chain.

The artists crossed the bridge between science and art in challenging new ways, giving the fields of physiology, neuroscience, immunology and genetics a home at this exhibition. The works were selected from a range of arts projects funded by Wellcome, an institution that has advocated for conversations about science and health for over twenty years.

John Walter, Alien Sex Club, 2015 – Comprising sculpture, painting, video and performance, Alien Sex Club is laid out in the style of a ‘cruise maze’ found in sex clubs and gay saunas. The installation furthers an understanding of the relationship between visual culture and HIV.
