Did you know there’s a colourful, Mediterranean village hidden in the heart of North Wales? You have to see Portmeirion to believe it – and we’ve teamed up with Visit Wales to give one lucky reader the chance to stay in this idyllic coastal village for two nights, as well as dinner both nights and a delicious Welsh breakfast each morning. Here are all of the details.
Designed and built by Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1975, Portmeirion is a colourful folly village inspired by the architect’s love of the Mediterranean. Perched on the Dwyryd Estuary on the edge of Eryri, it’s certainly a unique village, and more than 200,000 people visit each year to experience the magic for themselves.
The village’s flagship hotel is the luxurious Hotel Portmeirion, designed and opened by Williams-Ellis himself back in Easter 1926, the first piece in what would become his ideal village project. Today, it is home to a fine-dining restaurant, a bar and terrace and several relaxing lounges alongside 14 stylish bedrooms, and an open air swimming pool on the estuary lawn from April to September.
Fancy experiencing it for yourself? We’ve teamed up with Visit Wales to offer you the chance to win a stay in Portmeirion worth £700. You’ll experience the best that the small village has to offer, staying in a room or suite at Hotel Portmeirion. Each night, you’ll be welcomed into The Dining Room to enjoy a delicious three-course table d’hộte, or you can choose to dine at the nearby Castell Deudraeth’s Brasserie for a change of scenery, while each morning will begin with a traditional Welsh breakfast.
Competition closes on 28 October 2024.
