23 ideas for your Twixmas viewing schedule
What do you have planned for Twixmas? If you fancy filling the liminal space between Christmas and New Year catching up on 2024’s greatest TV hits, we’ve got you covered. Here are 23 of 2024’s best binge worthy TV shows to keep you occupied.
23 Binge Worthy TV Shows 2024
Black Doves
New for December 2024, Black Doves is the perfect Twixmas watch thanks to its festive backdrop. Following spy Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), six episodes trace the run-up to Christmas after her secret boyfriend is shot dead on the Southbank. Now renewed for season 2, too, it’s a must-watch this season.
WATCH: All six episodes of Black Doves are available to stream on Netflix.
Baby Reindeer
Was this the most talked about TV series of 2024? Probably. Harrowing as it is, millions of viewers just couldn’t look away from Richard Gadd’s semi-autobiographical black comedy Baby Reindeer – and the subsequent legal fall out. If that all totally passed you by, Twixmas spells time to tune in. Read all about what to expect before you do here.
WATCH: All seven episodes of Baby Reindeer are streaming now on Netflix.
Rivals
On the flip side, Rivals was possibly the sexiest series of 2024. Dubbed a ‘bonkbuster’ by the media, Rivals whisks us off to the fashionable Cotswolds. It’s 1986 and the TV business is booming – if cutthroat. At the fore is Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant), controller of Corinium Television whose rivalry with ex-Olympian, MP and notorious womaniser Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) bubbles to the surface. Meanwhile, journalist and TV presenter Declan O’Hara (Aidan Turner) gets caught in the crossfire. With season 2 coming soon, we think (hope) this series has a long future ahead.
WATCH: All eight episodes of Rivals season 1 are streaming exclusively on Disney+.
Slow Horses
Apple TV’s longest running TV series is moving from strength-to-strength – and is definitely worth the watch if you’re looking to fill your Twixmas with a compelling crime drama. Following a team of British intelligence agents who have all committed career-ending mistakes, Slow Horses centres on Slough House and its dull, paper-pushing tasks. However, the slow horses still manage to get involved with investigating schemes that endanger Britain, and each season focuses on a different plot.

Wolf Hall
Almost a decade after the first episode aired, the highly-anticipated second series of Wolf Hall finally aired this year, subtitled The Mirror and the Light after Hillary Mantel’s third novel in the series it is based on. Focusing on Thomas Cromwell’s rise to power in Henry VIII’s court, it’s an authentic costume drama starring some Hollywood heavyweights – and not to be missed.
WATCH: All episodes of Wolf Hall and The Mirror and the Light are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The Day Of The Jackal
Eddie Redmayne shines as a cool, calm and collected assassin in this brand new Sky series (which has been renewed for season 2, just fyi). A cat and mouse chase, we watch as he, The Jackal, traverses Europe while tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) tries to pin him down.
WATCH: All 10 episodes of The Day Of The Jackal season 1 are available to stream exclusively on Now.
Mayor Of Kingstown
This Paramount TV series has a loyal legion of fans – and there are three binge worthy seasons ready for watching. Centring on the powerful McLusky family, the series is all about America’s corrupt prison system, specifically in the titular fictional Michigan town Kingstown. The McLuskys have deep roots here, and has evolved into a group of power brokers with significant influence over the town’s affairs. When the eldest McLusky brother, Mitch (Kyle Chandler) – who inherited the role from the town’s first ‘mayor’, his father – dies, the middle McLusky brother, who always dreamed of escaping Kingstown, must step into the role.
WATCH: Mayor of Kingstown is streaming exclusively on Paramount+.
Say Nothing
Hidden away on Disney+, we think this astonishing historical drama may well be the best bit of TV to be released in 2024. Plonking us right in the middle of The Troubles, the series centres on sisters Dolours (Lola Petticrew) and Marian Price (Hazel Doupe) as they come of age in this turbulent era in Belfast. ‘It’s a compelling, microscopic view into the cost of war and the code of silence in the North,’ star Doupe tells C&TH. Need we say more?
WATCH: All episodes of Say Nothing are available on Disney+.
Nobody Wants This
For something a little more lighthearted, Netflix’s unexpected smash hit for 2024 was rom-com Nobody Wants This. Starring Kristen Bell as a podcaster and Adam Brody as a compelling rabbi, this will-they-won’t-they is a masterclass in modern rom-com making – and is an incredibly binge worthy TV series to boot.
WATCH: All 10 episodes of Nobody Wants This are streaming on Netflix.
One Day
Speaking of romance, a 2024 throwback is One Day, which landed on Netflix in February, a new adaptation of David Nicholls’ novel of the same name. Centring on a pair of on-and-off lovers, Dexter (Leo Woodall) and Emma (Ambika Mod), each episode falls on the same day each year, beginning at the pair’s university graduation and spanning a twenty year period. It’s a heartfelt story charting Dexter and Emma’s formative experiences, tracing their fragmented relationship as they find and lose each other in the course of their lives.
WATCH: All episodes of One Day are available to stream on Netflix.
Fallout
Video games adaptations are having a moment. For something more offbeat this Twixmas, it’s time to binge Fallout. Set 200 years after a nuclear war in an alternate 1950s, communities of humans have been living safely below ground in bunkers for years. However, when optimistic vault-dweller Lucy Walton (Purnell) emerges outside for the first time, she discovers the world above-ground has descended into a post-apocalyptic Wild West. She embarks on a journey through the wastelands of California – and an inevitable clash between the two civilisations (those above ground and those living in the vaults) ensues.
WATCH: All eight episodes of Fallout are available to watch now on Prime Video.
Shetland
Beloved Scottish crime drama Shetland returned for series 9 earlier this season, returning us to the wind-swept northernmost islands in the UK and immersing us in a new crime to be deciphered by detectives Ruth Calder and Tosh. With series 10 probably coming to screens in 2025, Twixmas is the perfect time to catch up.
WATCH: All episodes of Shetland are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The Perfect Couple
If easy-but-intriguing watching is what you’re after this Twixmas, look no further than The Perfect Couple, a glitzy murder mystery set across a few days on a beachfront compound. At the centre is the Winbury family, with Amelia (Eve Hewson) about to marry Benji Winbury (Billy Howle) in a lavish, weekend-long affair. That is until a guest is discovered dead on the beach the morning after a party…
WATCH: All episodes of The Perfect Couple are available to stream on Netflix.
Vikings: Valhalla
The third and sadly final season of Vikings: Valhalla landed on Netflix this summer, wrapping up the sequel to the original popular historical warrior series, Vikings. Beginning in England 100 years after Vikings ended, the series depicts the gory St Brice’s Day massacre in 1002 as tensions between the descendants of the Vikings (aka the Norse or Danes) and native English reach a fever pitch. To make matters worse, the Norse clash amongst themselves due to conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs. Thus begins the Viking Age’s downfall…
WATCH: All three seasons of Vikings: Valhalla are streaming now on Netflix.
The Gentlemen
Cast your mind back to spring, and you may recall Guy Ritchie’s TV series The Gentlemen being all anyone could talk about. The series centres on Eddie Horniman (Theo James), the son of a wealthy landowner who unexpectedly inherits the family’s sizable country estate upon the death of his father over his brother (and the first born son), Freddy Horniman (Daniel Ings). Overseeing his inheritance with a quick survey of the estate, Eddie soon discovers all is not as it seems – and the bucolic estate is actually a key piece in a huge cannabis empire.
WATCH: All episodes of The Gentlemen are streaming globally on Netflix.
Vera
With two episodes airing in January 2024, it’s easy to forget that Vera was one of the top TV shows on ITV this year. And with a final batch of three episodes airing across the first three days of 2025, Twixmas means it’s time to catch up. Centring on Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn), who is constantly teetering on the edge of retirement, Vera immerses us in the cryptic investigations that must be deciphered by the (fictional) Northumberland & City Police.
WATCH: All 13 series of Vera are available to stream on ITVX. itv.com
Gangs Of London
This gritty Sky series gained a whole new audience when it landed on Netflix earlier this year – including us. Joining Netflix’s bumper roster of gangster dramas, spanning everything from The Gentlemen to Top Boy, Narcos to Griselda, Gangs of London turns its attention to the British capital – and its burgeoning underground drug trade. With season 3 on the way, it’s the perfect Twixmas binge watch.
WATCH: Gangs of London is available to stream on NOW and Netflix.
Outlander
Fancy joining a new fandom? Historical fiction fans should tune into Outlander, an addictive series led by Caitríona Balfe and based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling book series of the same name. Claire Randall (Balfe) is a former WWII military nurse in Scotland who falls through a time loop and is transported from 1945 to 1743. There, she encounters Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), falling in love and marrying him – despite having a husband in 1945. With seven series ready to race through and an eighth and final season on the way, it’s time to get watching.

Industry
Fast becoming the BBC’s flagship series, Industry has gained new fans with each and every season. Season 3 aired earlier this year, and season 4 will land in 2025 or 2026, so Twixmas is a great time to catch up. Centring on a group of young London bankers as they navigate their new high-stakes world, it’s a sex and drug-fuelled high-pressure drama – and it only gets better with each series.
WATCH: All episodes of Industry are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Yellowstone
This big-hitting Paramount TV series just concluded with a blood-soaked finale – but it’s far from the last we will see of the universe Taylor Sheridan has created. A neo-western, Yellowstone centres on the Dutton family, which controls Montana’s – and the US’s – largest contiguous ranch. Led by patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the series delves into their struggles to maintain the vast swathe of land against threats spanning land developers, political corruption and Native American tensions.
WATCH: All episodes of Yellowstone are streaming exclusively on Paramount+.
Emily In Paris
Season 4 of this candy sweet Netflix dramedy landed earlier this year, injecting some lighthearted intrigue into our evenings. Centring on Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), Emily in Paris follows the work and romantic exploits of an American expat working in PR in Paris – and with 30-minute episodes, it’s one of the most binge worthy TV series out there. If you’ve resisted the pull of Emily in Paris up to now, with season 5 on the way, Twixmas is the perfect time to watch (or re-watch). Trust us when we say it’s less cringe-worthy than it sounds…
WATCH: All episodes of Emily in Paris are streaming now on Netflix.
The White Lotus
While there wasn’t a new season of The White Lotus in 2024 (season 2 wrapped up in December 2022, in fact), season 3 will be arriving in February 2024, so if you’re still behind on this sun-soaked dramedy, it’s time to get bingeing. If you’re already up to date, here’s exactly what the season 3 trailer teased about the action to come.
WATCH: The White Lotus is available to stream on Now TV.
The Last Of Us
Another much-adored series getting a second season very soon is The Last Of Us – one of 2023’s breakthrough hits set to finally return in 2025 after strike-related delays. Based on the video game of the same name, this post-apocalyptic series follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) as he smuggles teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a barren wasteland of a nation riddled with zombies. Here’s what to expect from season 2.
WATCH: The Last Of Us is available to stream on Now TV.
