Aaron Taylor-Johnson has allegedly been offered the role of 007
At the end of No Time To Die, the words ‘James Bond will return’ appear on the screen – as is tradition. It might have been Daniel Craig’s final stint as 007, but a new era of Bond is on its way, and naturally there has been endless speculation about what that might look like. Crucially, who will take the baton from Craig? Who will direct? And when can we expect the film? Here’s everything we know so far about Bond 26.
Bond 26: All The Details We Have So Far
Who Will Be The New James Bond?
The rumour mill surrounding potential candidates for the new Bond has been rife for a while now. Some of the biggest names in the conversation have been Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Jamie Dornan and Henry Cavill – but now the spotlight has pivoted to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has reportedly been offered the role.
An unnamed source said: ‘Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.’
Taylor-Johnson – who has starred in films including Tenet and Nocturnal Animals – addressed the rumours recently, telling Numero magazine he found it ‘charming and wonderful that people see me in that role’. He added: ‘I take it as a great compliment’.

Whether the speculations are true or not, sources have confirmed it won’t be a young Bond. At a BFI event in 2022, longtime Bond custodian Michael G. Wilson said: ‘We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualise it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something.’
What Can We Expect From Bond 26?
We don’t know much about the film itself yet, but on multiple occasions, EON producer Barbara Broccoli has described Bond 26 as a ‘reinvention’. Back in June 2022, she told Deadline: ‘We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time.’
We also know Bond will remain in the world of film, rather than venture into TV. ‘We’ve resisted that call for 60 years,’ Wilson told Total Film, adding: ‘We make films. We make films for the cinema. That’s what we do.’
Who Will Direct Bond 26?
There has been much speculation, too, about who will direct the next film. Christopher Nolan’s name was being tossed about for a while, but he shut down the rumours in late 2023. Phoebe Waller-Bridge could be in the running: an unnamed source told the Mail Online: ‘Barbara has been quite open about saying Phoebe would be her first choice to direct and co-write the next film.’
When Will Bond 26 Come Out?
It’s likely still a long way off. Back in June 2022, Broccoli told Deadline filming was at least two years away, and the film is still firmly in pre-production stage in early 2024. And at a recent BFI event, Broccoli said: ‘there’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film. There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet.’
