Everything we know so far
Grab your cloaks, people: The Traitors is back. But this time, there are a few familiar faces playing the game. Yep, it’s official: a celebrity version of The Traitors is coming to the UK, with filming set to take place in 2025. Here’s when we will see it on the BBC.
Celebrity The Traitors UK: News, Cast, Release Date & More
Is There Going To Be A Celebrity Edition Of The Traitors?
Yes, the UK version of The Traitors is getting the celebrity treatment, with a new nine-part series on the way. The news follows the huge success of the first two seasons of the murder mystery reality series, which viewers praised for the normality and diversity of contestants.
‘The Traitors has well and truly established itself as an unmissable highlight of the year and the news of a fourth outing, alongside a brand new celebrity version coming to the BBC, will take the series to a whole new level,’ says Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC.
Over in the US, however, celebrities have always played a part in The Traitors. In season 1, also filmed in Scotland like the British version, ordinary Americans were spliced with celebrities, while the second season featured only celebrities – including famous faces from our side of the pond, former House of Commons Speaker John Bercow and Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.
Who Will Star?
Celebrity The Traitors will star a cast of 22 players, though no news just yet on who they will be. With casting now underway, we expect a mixture of famous faces from reality TV, sport, daytime TV, comedy and soaps – but who knows who might fancy putting their wits to the test.
That said, there are some starry rumours floating around, including that Friends star Courteney Cox (a friend of presenter Claudia Winkleman) might be involved. An insider reportedly told The Sun, ‘After the show was announced, producers were swamped with calls from big names and their agents wanting to throw their hat in the ring – many of them a big surprise.’ That’s right: it’s not just us normal people obsessed with The Traitors. Other rumoured stars include Rylan Clark, Kathy Burke, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Alison Hammond, Jason Manford, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Liz Truss and EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt who wrote on Instagram during series 2, ‘If they ever do a celeb version of #traitors I would walk to Scotland to be part of it!!’ Valid.
‘We are thrilled to be inviting some celebrities into our castle to come and play the game,’ says Mike Cotton, Creative Director of Unscripted content at Studio Lambert and Executive Producer of The Traitors. ‘Seeing famous faces navigate the round table or don the infamous green cloaks will be unmissable TV, and what a double treat for the fans with Series 4 also confirmed too. There’s a whole lot of exciting treachery and deception yet to come from the Highlands… Claudia’s going to have to pack some extra knitwear.’
In the US, celebrities have spanned reality stars, Olympians, actors and more, including Cirie Fields, Kate Chastain, Ryan Lochte, Chrishell Stause and, of course, Ekin-Su and John Bercow.
Who Will Present Celebrity The Traitors?
What is The Traitors without Claudia Winkleman? We expect the British legend to return with her iconic countrycore wardrobe in tow.
What About Ordinary The Traitors?
Don’t worry: The Traitors series 3 and 4 are still set for broadcast starring ordinary Brits, with filming already complete on series 3. We expect The Traitors series 3 to kick off on British screens in January 2025.
Release Date
No news just yet on when we can expect to see Celebrity The Traitors on the BBC, but we have been told filming will take place in 2025 along with ordinary The Traitors series 4. If The Traitors series 4 airs in January 2026, we imagine the celebrity version will air either in winter 2025, or sometime in spring 2026.
