There’s nothing better than knowing that your favourite book is being turned into a TV show or film, and fans of Candice Carty-Williams’ work will be thrilled to hear that an adaptation of her novel, Queenie, arrives tonight on Channel 4. Here’s everything you need to knoq.

What is Queenie about?

Written by Candice Carty-Williams and published in 2019, the novel tells the story of 25 year-old Queenie Jenkins, a Jamaican-British woman working at a national newspaper. Following an unceremonious breakup with her long-term boyfriend, Tom, Queenie makes some less-than-wise dating decisions and finds herself reflecting on questions of identity, fulfilment and self-worth. ‘At its core, it’s a story about a young Black woman’s value and the unrelenting trials and tribulations of life,’ Channel 4’s synopsis states. The Channel 4 adaptation will take the form of an eight-part drama series.

When will Queenie be released?

The first two episodes will premiere on Channel 4 at 10pm on Tuesday 4 June. The rest of the series will then be available to stream online channel4.com. Over in the US, it will drop on Hulu on Friday 7 June.
