‘Collect’ Opened Today at The Saatchi Gallery

The Crafts Council opened the 14th installation of The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects today at the Saatchi Gallery.

Over 40 galleries from 4 continents will be held within the museum until 25 February.

This celebration of making introduces the people, processes, materials and ideas inspiring international craft in 2018. The UK, USA, South Korea, Japan, France, Norway, Italy, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden are represented at the exhibit in the museum.

5 Craft Trends for 2018 & Where to Learn Them in the UK

Different areas will be reserved for genre-specific work. ‘Collect Open’, for example, will show the creations of established and emerging artists with exploratory and risk -taking aims. Jay Osgerby made the 2018 selection of projects on the basis of scale, concept and ambition. ‘Collect Spotlights’, which was established last year, features the work of selected galleries that epitomise the cutting-edge and immersive potential of crafting in 2018.

Masters of British Studio Pottery narrates the rise of British ceramic art in the 20th and 21st centuries. The display is curated using works from both the Saatchi and The Fitzwilliam Museum, with works for sale from Marsden Woo, Oxford Ceramics Gallery and Erskine, Hall & Coe. Artists include Alison Britton, Hans Coper, Bernard Leach, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Lucie Rie and Julian Stair.

‘Collect Late’ on Friday 23 February from 5-9pm includes Crafts Magazine‘s first Music Club, as well as a talk and performance with guitar maker Alex Bishop at 6pm. £16 per ticket.
